Abstract: A method of preserving wood is provided. The method comprises the step of contacting the wood with an aqueous composition comprising (a) a wax having melting point higher than 75° C. and an average particle size no greater than 1 micron, (b) greater than 0.08% by weight, based on the weight of said aqueous composition, a nonionic surfactant having the formula R—OCH2CH2OxH wherein said R is an aliphatic group having 10 to 16 carbon atoms; wherein the average value of x is 4.5 to 5.5, and (c) one or more organic wood preservative.
