Abstract:
A method and apparatus for generating parity information for error correction using a parity check matrix, rows of which correspond to a message word length m, columns of which correspond to a codeword length n, the number of nullonesnull included in the rows and columns is fixed, and remaining elements are all nullzerosnull, the error correction method includes obtaining a p number of parity information using the parity check matrix and predetermined message data S, wherein a matrix including a k number of columns from a (n-mnull1)-th element of the parity check matrix is created with a lower triangular matrix form, all elements within the upper triangular portion of the lower triangular form are nullzerosnull, using a column and row permutation method.
Abstract:
An optical recording medium allowing data to be recorded on, erased from, and reproduced from, and storing information about power levels of an erase pulse. The recorded erase pattern information may include information about power levels of first and last pulses of an erase pattern for erasing data. The first and last pulses of the erase pattern can be differently set depending on the differing kind of recording layer or layers of a disk or differing kinds of disks and recorded in a reproducible only area or rewritable area of the optical recording medium. Thus, by presetting the appropriate erase power levels, the time required for selecting an optimal erase power for the optical recording medium can be considerably reduced.
Abstract:
An optical disk and a method of recording data in the optical disk are provided. When data is overwritten on a recordable and/or reproducible optical disk, the method includes performing linking in front of a physical cluster from which overwriting starts. According to the method, when overwriting is performed on a portion of an optical disk in which data has been recorded, or when overwriting is performed on a portion including a defective area, linking is performed in front of the portion on which the overwriting is performed or behind the defective area, thereby realizing reliable data recording and reproducing.
Abstract:
A method of and apparatus for recording data on an optical recording medium form a mark or a space by using a recording waveform having an erase pattern containing a multi-pulse. The method and the apparatus prevent distortion of the mark or the space and improve a mark shape such that a recording/reproducing characteristic of the optical recording medium is improved.
Abstract:
An optical disc and a method of recording essential information in and reproducing the essential information from an optical disc are provided. The optical disc includes a pattern of crystalline and amorphous marks representing the essential information. The essential information recording method includes heating an amorphous recording layer above the temperature of crystallization by radiating a laser beam according to a photoelectrically converted signal, and slowly cooling the heated recording layer to the temperature of crystallization or below to form the pattern of crystalline and amorphous marks. The essential information reproducing method includes radiating the beam onto the pattern of crystalline and amorphous marks in which the essential information of the optical disc is recorded, receiving the beam reflected from the pattern of crystalline and amorphous marks and photoelectrically converting the received beam into a detected signal, filtering the detected signal through a high-pass filter, and reproducing the essential information of the optical disc from the filtered signal. The essential information can be recorded in a recordable optical disc by phase change using a conventional disc initializing apparatus after deposition of a recording layer and before initialization of the optical disc. Therefore, an additional recording apparatus and process is not necessary, and no damage caused by a high energy of the laser beam occurs in the optical disc.
Abstract:
An optical disc on which data is recorded and/or from which the data is reproduced, includes a recording area where the data is recorded in at least one physical cluster, a defective area, where a defect that prevents a recording and/or reproduction of data is present, provided in the recording area, and a recording end area where information indicating an end of recording is recorded before the defective area. A method of recording data on and/or reproducing the data from a high density optical disc having a defective area, includes recording the data in a predetermined recording area having the defective area, and recording end data indicating an end of the recording before the defective area.
Abstract:
A recording medium storing linking type information, a method of processing a defective area in the medium and recording and/or reproducing apparatus therefor. The recording medium stores information indicating that linking is applied immediately after the defective area, distinguishing a linking type which occurs in a general incremental recording mode from a linking type which occurs after the defective area. Defective areas are detected and registered in a predetermined area (recording management data (RMD) area) before user data is recorded or while user data is being recorded in the recording medium having a plurality of continuous basic recording units, such as a digital versatile disc-rewritable (DVD-RW) in which recording and reproducing can be done repeatedly. Linking is not only applied in an incremental recording mode or in a restricted overwrite recording mode, but linking is also applied to an area immediately after the defective area which is registered in the defect list, increasing reliability of the user data. In addition, a test signal such as data, a groove wobble pattern, or a recording mark which has a test pattern, which functions as linking data is recorded in advance in a block immediately after the defective area detected during certification. If the test signal is detected after the defective area, the new user data is recorded immediately after a predetermined number of error correction code (ECC) blocks following the defective area without using linking, reducing the time for recording linking data, which is advantageous to real-time recording.
Abstract:
A method of optimizing recording conditions of an optical recording medium and an apparatus using the method. The method includes recording a test write pattern in a plurality of tracks of the optical recording medium; and checking a quality of a radio frequency signal reproduced from one of the plurality of tracks in which the predetermined write pattern is recorded and which is effected by writing in adjacent tracks to determine the optimized recording conditions.
Abstract:
An optical information storage medium and a method of recording and/or reproducing information on and/or from the optical information storage medium includes a lead-in area, a user data area, and a lead-out area in which data is recorded. The data that is not modified on storage media complying with the same physical format is recorded in the entire lead-in area or a portion of the lead-in area. A data recording modulation method used in the entire lead-in area or the portion of the lead-in area is different from a data recording modulation method used in a remaining area of the optical information storage medium.
Abstract:
A data recording, reproducing, detecting and/or evaluating apparatus includes a modulator which modulates input information data by a predetermined modulation method, according to a first clock signal having a basic clock period (T) for recording/reproducing data, and a bit expander which expands bits for a modulated bitstream according to a second clock signal that are a predetermined multiple of the first clock signal. By forming pits with an nT length and not forming pits with an (nnull1)T length on the information storage medium, stable reproduction of data is enabled.
