Abstract: An electronic device is disclosed and includes a housing; a display that is exposed through one surface of the housing; a light emitting unit that is disposed on at least a part of a rear surface of the display and includes at least one light source for outputting light of at least one wavelength band; a light receiving unit that includes at least one area for receiving light of the at least one wavelength band; a light blocking element for blocking light, that is output from the at least one light source, from entering a switch for turning on/off at least one pixel of the display; a processor electrically connected with the display, the light emitting unit, and the light receiving unit; and a memory electrically connected with the processor, in which the memory includes instructions that cause, when executed, the processor to output light through the at least one light source in a state where one or more pixels included in a specific area of the display, which includes an area covering the at least one light source, are turned off or displayed in a specific color.

Abstract: An operation method and an electronic device are provided. A phone call is established while a display of the electronic device is activated. A proximity sensor of the electronic device is turned on. A supply of power to the proximity sensor is controlled to emit light through a plurality of pixels in a portion of the display corresponding to a position of the proximity sensor and the light emitted by the proximity sensor and reflected by an object is received to identify a distance between the electronic device and the object, if the plurality of the pixels in the position corresponding to the proximity sensor are deactivated during the phone call. The supply of power to the proximity sensor is blocked if the plurality of pixels in the portion of the display corresponding to the proximity sensor are activated during the phone call.

The electronic device according to an embodiment includes a display panel including a plurality of pixels, a display driver IC that is electrically connected with the display panel and that displays contents using the plurality of pixels, a support structure disposed under one surface of the display panel and having an opening part formed therein through which a partial area of the one surface is exposed, a shielding structure disposed under at least part of the partial area of the display exposed through the opening part, the shielding structure being electrically connected with a ground area provided in the electronic device so as to block noise generated from the display panel driven by the display driver IC, and an ultrasonic sensor disposed under at least part of the shielding structure. Besides, it may be permissible to prepare various other embodiments speculated through the specification.

Abstract: An operation method and an electronic device are provided. A proximity detection mode is activated in response to deactivating the display during an execution of a call application. In response to activating the proximity detection mode, a proximity distance of an object is identified based on outputting the light through the light emitting unit and receiving the light through the light receiving unit. If the identified proximity distance is larger than a pre-defined proximity recognition distance, the proximity detection mode is deactivated and the display is activated.
