A method and an apparatus are provided for controlling a memory in an electronic device. A kernel of a control unit in the electronic device receives importance information, based on program information, and memory usage, from an Operating System (OS) framework of the control unit. It is determined whether a memory request signal is received at the kernel from the OS framework. The kernel terminates at least one program based on the memory request signal and the importance information, when the memory request signal is received.

The protective cover for a slot and a screen of a mobile terminal having a window at a front surface, having a slot in a recess formed in a predetermined depth at an upper portion of a rear surface, and mounts an injection and discharge element in the slot includes: a slot protective cover for covering the injection and discharge element and fastened to the recess; and a screen protective cover extended in a length for covering the window from the slot protective cover and for rotating to the front surface or the rear surface using one side surface of the mobile terminal as a central axis.

A method and an apparatus for automatically controlling the brightness of a display unit in a mobile device according to external illuminance are provided. The brightness control method includes measuring a gradient of the mobile device, measuring an external illuminance through at least one of an illuminance sensor and a camera, depending on the measured gradient of the mobile device, and regulating the brightness of the mobile device, based on the measured external illuminance.
