Abstract: A display apparatus and control method thereof are provided. The display apparatus including: a display configured to display an image; a backlight unit including a plurality of light sources configured to emit light to a screen of the display; an image processor configured to divide an input image into a plurality of blocks, identify target brightness for each block, and adjust a control value of each of the plurality of light sources based on priority of each of the plurality of light sources; and a driver configured to drive the plurality of light sources based on the control value. Thus, the duty for controlling the quality of light from the light source is identified considering the duty of the light source corresponding to an area of which previously identified priority is high, and thus dimming control is possible taking effects of light diffusion from adjacent neighboring light sources into account.

Abstract: An electronic device and an image conversion method of the electronic device, the electronic device comprising: a receiving unit for receiving a first image from a source device; a decoding unit for decoding brightness information of the first image; a converting unit for converting a dynamic range of the first image on the basis of the decoded brightness information, using a mapping function; and a display unit for displaying a second image having the converted dynamic range on a display, wherein the mapping function is a curve function including a plurality of points determined on the basis of the first image, a characteristic of a change in brightness of a display of the source device, and a characteristic of brightness of a scene of the first image. The present disclosure may generate, for example, a high dynamic range (HDR) image, which is improved from a standard dynamic range (SDR) image.

The electronic apparatus includes: a storage configured to store a plurality of filters each corresponding to a plurality of image patterns; and a processor configured to classify an image block including a target pixel and a plurality of surrounding pixels into one of the plurality of image patterns based on a relationship between pixels within the image block and to obtain a final image block in which the target pixel is image-processed by applying at least one filter corresponding to the classified image pattern from among the plurality of filters to the image block, wherein the plurality of filters are obtained by learning, through an artificial intelligence algorithm, a relationship between a plurality of first sample image blocks and a plurality of second sample image blocks corresponding to the plurality of first sample image blocks based on each of the plurality of image patterns.
