A method of iris scanning and proximity sensing includes: receiving selection information of an operation mode; sensing an iris including emitting light having an amount of light of a first level, and photographing an iris using the emitted light if a selected operation mode is a iris scanning mode; sensing a proximity including emitting light having an amount of light of a second level, and sensing information on whether an object has approached using the emitted light if the selected operation mode is a proximity sensing mode; and recognizing the iris using the photographed iris image, and performing a function according to the sensed information on whether the object has approached, and the first level has a value higher than the value of the second level.

An apparatus and a method for processing a split view in a portable device. The method of processing a split view in a portable device, includes: displaying a plurality of applications as a split view corresponding to split display regions of a display unit; displaying an input panel on a display region of an application of the plurality of applications that did not call for the input panel when the input panel is called; and processing data input through the input panel by an application calling the input panel.

A method of displaying a graphic user interface (GUI) by an electronic device is provided. The method includes displaying a first page from a plurality of pages and the GUI corresponding to the first page on a screen, displaying at least a part of the first page and at least a part of a second page adjacent to the first page from the plurality of pages based on a user input received in at least one of an area in which the first page is displayed and an area in which the GUI is displayed, and changing the displayed GUI according to a ratio between an area of at least the part of the displayed first page and an area of at least the part of the displayed second page.

An apparatus and a method of changing a content display area on a screen of a portable device are provided. The method includes displaying a plurality of applications as a split view by respectively corresponding each of the plurality of applications to each of a plurality of split display areas of a display unit, and extending a display area of an application selected from the split view to be displayed as a main screen, and reducing a display area of an unselected application to be displayed as a sub screen.

A system and method of receiving various types of gestures and displays corresponding keypads on the mobile device are provided. The method includes receiving a keypad calling command, and arranging and displaying one or more keypad blocks on the screen of the mobile device, according to a track of the keypad calling command. The keypad display system includes an input unit for receiving a user's input, and a controller for determining whether the user's input is a keypad calling command, and for arranging and displaying one or more keypad blocks on the screen, according to a track of the keypad calling command.
