Abstract:
A media-facing surface of a magnetic head is positioned proximate a moving magnetic recording medium. A current is applied to an electromagnet of the magnetic head. The current induces a magnetic force between the magnetic head and the magnetic recording medium that adjusts a clearance therebetween.
Abstract:
A recording head comprises a write pole extending to an air-bearing surface. A near-field transducer is positioned proximate a first side of the write pole in a down-track direction. A heatsink structure is proximate the near-field transducer and positioned between the near-field transducer and the write pole. The heatsink structure extends beyond the near-field transducer in a cross-track direction and extends in a direction normal to the air-bearing surface.
Abstract:
A slider comprises an air bearing surface (ABS) and is configured to interact with a magnetic recording medium. A writer is provided on the slider and comprises a write coil having a media-facing surface situated at the ABS. Cooling arms project laterally from peripheral surfaces of the write coil and extend along the ABS. The media-facing surface of the write coil and the cooling arms are exposed to the ABS to facilitate increased cooling of the write coil at the ABS.
Abstract:
A magnetic head includes a read transducer and a write transducer at a media-facing surface of the magnetic head. The magnetic head includes at least one heater that causes heat deformation at the media-facing surface in response to different first and second energizing currents. The first energizing current results in a first close point between the media-facing surface and a recording medium. The second energizing current results in a second close point between the media-facing surface and the recording medium. The second close point is at a different location in the media-facing surface than the first close point.
Abstract:
An apparatus includes a heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) head that comprises a write coil, a write coil heatsink, and a spacer. The write coil heatsink is thermally coupled to the write coil. The spacer lies intermediate the write coil and the write coil heatsink.

Abstract:
An apparatus comprises a slider comprising an air bearing surface (ABS). The slider comprises a reader, a writer, and a reader heater. The reader heater is configured to cause a protrusion of the ABS proximate the reader, and the reader heater comprises a first planar loop and a second planar loop, wherein the first and second loops are in the same plane.
