Abstract: A bicycle component includes a drive unit and a battery. The drive unit includes a housing mounted on a bicycle frame, a crankshaft provided to a first portion of the housing, and a propulsion assist motor provided to a second portion of the housing. The battery is electrical connected to the propulsion assist motor to supply electrical power to the propulsion assist motor. The propulsion assist motor includes a rotational axis extending in a direction intersecting a direction in which the crankshaft extends. At least part of the second portion and at least part of the battery are accommodated in the frame in a state in which the second portion and the battery are arranged next to each other in a direction parallel to the rotational axis of the propulsion assist motor and the battery is coupled to the second portion in an attachable and detachable manner.

Abstract: A human-powered vehicle drive unit that reduces loss of human driving force includes an electric motor, a crankshaft, an output portion, a speed reducer, and a clutch. The electric motor is configured to assist in propulsion of a human-powered vehicle. The output portion is coupled to the crankshaft. The speed reducer reduces a rotational speed of the electric motor in multiple steps. The clutch is provided between the output portion and the speed reducer. In a case in which the crankshaft rotates in a first rotational direction, the output portion is configured to rotate in the first rotational direction. In a case in which the crankshaft rotates in a second rotational direction, the output portion is configured to rotate in the second rotational direction. The clutch is configured to transmit a rotational force of the electric motor to the output portion from the speed reducer.

Abstract: A battery holder is configured to appropriately hold a battery unit. The battery holder includes a first holding portion that supports a first end of a battery unit while in an installed state where the battery unit is held by the battery holder. The first holding portion includes a movable member and a first biasing member. The movable member includes a first support surface that contacts the first end of the battery unit while in the installed state. The movable member is movable relative to a frame of a human-powered vehicle while in a mounted state where the battery holder is mounted to the frame of the human-powered vehicle. The first biasing member biases the movable member toward the battery unit.

Abstract: A bicycle drive unit includes a crank axle, a motor, an output member and a torque combining mechanism. The crank axle is rotatable about a first rotational axis. The motor has an output shaft rotatable about a second rotational axis. The output member is rotatable about the first rotational axis in a first rotational direction as the crank axle rotates about the first rotational axis in the first rotational direction. The torque combining mechanism operatively couples the output shaft of the motor to the output member to transmit rotation of the output shaft of the motor to the output member. The torque combining mechanism operatively separates the output shaft of the motor from the output member for preventing rotation of the crank axle from being transmitted to the output shaft of the motor as the crank axle rotates about the first rotational axis in a second rotational direction.

Abstract: A bicycle apparatus comprises an assist motor, an ABS unit, an assist selection switch and a control device. The ABS unit is configured to control a braking force that is applied to a bicycle wheel. The assist selection switch is configured to switch the assist motor between an ON mode in which the assist motor is ON and an OFF mode in which the assist motor is OFF. The control of the ABS unit by the control device is dependent on an operation of the assist selection switch. The control device is configured to control the assist motor to add the assisting force to the manual drive force when the assist motor is in the ON mode. The control device is configured to set the ABS unit to an ABS operating mode to begin control of the ABS unit when the assist selection switch selects the ON mode.

Abstract: A method of controlling an ABS unit is provided for controlling a braking force of a bicycle. The method includes determining whether a vehicle speed is greater than or equal to a prescribed speed, and then determining whether the bicycle is in a prescribed state. The prescribed state is at least one of a first state and a second state. The first state is a state in which a difference between a rotational speed of the front wheel and a rotational speed of the rear wheel is greater than or equal to a prescribed rotational speed. The second state is a state in which a change in the rotational speeds of the front and rear wheels is greater than or equal to a prescribed value. The method further includes controlling the ABS unit upon based on the vehicle speed and the prescribed state.

The method includes a first step of arranging the first portion at a position for mounting the first portion on the frame, and a second step of rotating the housing about an axis parallel to a rotational axis of the crankshaft and inserting the second portion into an opening of the frame after the first step.
