A fixture for a floating connector is to be mounted on a substrate and has at one end a connection portion to be connected to the substrate. The two fixtures are used in the floating connector including a plurality of contacts, an insulator fixing the contacts therein and having flanges, and a housing covering the insulator and fixing the contacts therein. The fixtures each include at the other end an anchoring bent piece adapted to engage the flange of the insulator to prevent the insulator from floating upwardly to an excessive extent. The floating connector using the fixtures is able to completely prevent the contacts from being buckled or deformed to an excessive extent when the floating connector is being fitted with or removed from a mating connector.

An electrical connector consists of a plug connector and a receptacle connector to be fitted. An insulator is supported only by plug contacts each provided between second and third fixed portions with an elastic portion having at least one snaked portion so as to be floating in a housing. The shape of the second contact portion of each of the plug contacts is substantially in the form of a plate-shaped piece so that the second contact portion of the plug contact and the first contact portion of a receptacle contact are caused to contact each other in line contact at one location, and the elastic portion is arranged within a range from a position below the second contact portion to a position below the insulator. The electrical connector thus constructed is superior in resistance to vibration, and achieves space-saving and floating of the insulator.

The elastic portion is so positioned that its upper curved portion is at the same height as a second contact portion and its lower curved portion is at the same height as the lower end of the insulator. The distal end of a first contact portion of a receptacle contact is folded back toward a first connection portion to provide a third contact to contact the elastic portion so that the first contact portion and the third contact portion of the receptacle contact and the second contact portion and the elastic portion of the plug contact are caused to contact each other in line contacts at two locations. The electrical connector thus constructed is superior in resistance to vibration, and achieves space-saving and a reduced overall height less than 5 mm and further the floating of the insulator.

A connector for memory cards includes a connector body having side walls on both sides and a rear wall. The side walls are formed over their length with card receiving portions to meet shapes of side edges and the number of the memory cards to be used. The connector further includes card identification terminals made of a springy metal strip arranged in a plurality of steps in inner surface of one of the side walls, identification tabs arranged spaced from the card identification terminal prior to insertion of a card, for identifying an existence of an inserted card with the aid of the contact between the inserted card and the card identification terminal, and terminals suitably arranged on the rear wall for writing electronic information into cards and reading stored information from cards. Each of the card identification terminals includes a contact portion to contact the card, a fixing portion to be fixed to the connector body, and a connection portion to be connected to a board and further includes an engaging portion on an extension of the contact portion, which engaging portion engages an anchoring portion of each of insertion grooves formed in the connector body.
