    摘要: A computer assembly having a host computer and a detachably attached computer expansion module. The computer expansion module includes a 2D imaging module, and may include short range imaging optics. In a “picture taking” mode actuated by input into the host computer, the expansion module captures an image, and without launching a decoding algorithm, sends the captured image to the host computer which displays the image on an integrated display of the host computer. In a “decode” mode actuated by input to the host computer, the expansion module captures an image, executes a decoding algorithm, and sends a decoded out message to the host computer, which displays the decoded out message on an integrated display of the host computer.

In a partial frame operating mode, the reader clocks out and captures at least one partial frame of image data having image data corresponding to less than all of the pixels of an image sensor pixel array. In one embodiment, the reader operating in a partial frame operating mode captures image data corresponding to a linear pattern of pixels of the image sensor, reads the image data, and attempts to decode for a decodable bar code symbol which may be represented in the image data.

    摘要: There is described in one embodiment an imaging apparatus having an image sensor, and a plurality of operating states. Operation of the imaging apparatus can be differentiated between the operating states. In one operating state, the imaging apparatus can capture a frame of image data having image data corresponding to a predetermined number of pixels of the image sensor. The operating states of the imaging apparatus can be user selectable. There is described in one embodiment an apparatus having an image sensor operative to capture a relatively smaller sized frame, wherein a characteristic of light directed by an illumination assembly for capture of a relatively larger sized frame is determined utilizing the relatively smaller sized frame.

    摘要: An exposure control apparatus for use with optical readers, such as bar code readers, which utilize photosensitive image sensors. An illumination signal generating circuit generates an illumination signal having a magnitude that varies in accordance with the time averaged value of the illumination level at the image sensor. A window detecting circuit periodically samples the illumination signal to determine if that signal is or is not within a window of acceptability. Exposure period determining circuitry uses the output of the window detecting circuit to upwardly or downwardly adjust the value of a control variable as necessary to cause the illumination signal to approach, enter and remain within the window of acceptability.
