摘要: A liquid crystal halftone display system including a tone generator which, for pixels having P tones of K tones (1≦P≦K), alternately outputs first N-bit tone display data and second N-bit tone display data in successive frames at one of a first phase and a second phase. Within a block of pixels, the tone generator alternately inverts the phase of the N-bit tone display data at successive first pixels having different ones of the P tones within the block of pixels beginning at a left side of the block of pixels, and alternately inverts the phase of the N-bit tone display data at successive pixels having a same one of the P tones within the block of pixels beginning at the left side of the block of pixels.

摘要: A liquid crystal panel and a liquid crystal display device including the panel which has a transparent first substrate, a second substrate arranged so as to oppose the first substrate with a space therebetween and liquid crystals filled in the space between the first substrate and the second substrate and having a twist angle which changes in a plane in parallel with a direction of an electric field. The panel has pixels including pixel electrodes connected to source electrodes and counter electrodes with the pixels being arranged in M rows and N columns, where M and N are integers of at least two. Both of the pixel electrodes and the counter electrodes are provided at the second substrate. The panel also includes drain lines independently provided for respective columns, gate lines independently provided for respective rows, and counter lines connected to the counter electrodes. The counter lines include first counter lines at at least one of odd number columns and odd number rows and second counter lines at at least one of even number columns and even number rows with the first and second counter lines being independent of one another.

摘要: A scanning voltage driving device suitable for a liquid crystal panel with plural output terminals, the scanning voltage driving device producing a 2-level selection voltage to plural scanning electrode groups which drive the liquid crystal panel according to a value of an orthogonal function data, the 2-level selection voltage having a positive polarity and a negative polarity with respect to a center point being a non-selection voltage, includes orthogonal function producing means for producing the orthogonal function data from input synchronous display signal groups, scanning line selecting means for creating a scanning line selection signal from the synchronous display signal groups to indicate an output terminal for the selection voltage, and voltage selecting means for selectively outputting a voltage amount the 2 levels of the selection voltages and the non-selection voltage every output terminal according to the value of the scanning line selection signal and the value of the orthogonal function data, the scanning line selecting means dividing one frame period into plural virtual block periods and then repeatedly creating the scanning line selection signal which sequentially selects all the scanning electrodes to be selected for the block period every plural scanning electrodes.

摘要: An improved multi-color liquid crystal display system which is capable of making visual color representation of more than eight colors in a display panel, such as a liquid crystal display panel which is composed of liquid crystal cells having three primary color filters attached thereto. Lightness of a cell is controlled by causing the cell to be in "ON" state during M frames out of N frames (N>M) to thereby provide half-tone color representation of the cell. This enables increase of the number of colors represented with the three primary color cells more than eight by combining "ON", "OFF" and the "half-tone" states of the three primary color cells.

摘要: A liquid-crystal display system includes a data driver, a scan driver, a liquid-crystal panel, a line memory (204 in FIG. 2) in which input display data (101) for representing any of display-ON, display-OFF and halftone every pixel are stored for, at least, one line, and a halftone pattern generator (200) by which liquid-crystal display data (106) to be applied to the data driver are generated using the contents of the line memory and the input display data. The halftone pattern generator generates ON data in response to the input display data representing the display-ON of the pixel; it generates OFF data in response to the input display data representing the display-OFF of the pixel; and it generates the ON data and the OFF data alternately in successive frames as halftone data in response to the input display data representing the halftone display of the pixel, and it also compares the input display data of a pertinent line and those of a preceding line every line so as to invert a phase of changing-over the ON data and the OFF data in accordance with a result of the comparison. Since the number of ON pixels (or pixels for either of first and second data) for the halftone display is substantially equalized every frame, flickering can be reduced irrespective of display patterns.
