Abstract: Example radar systems are presented herein. A radar system may include radiating elements configured to radiate electromagnetic energy and arranged symmetrically in a linear array. The radiating elements comprise a set of radiating doublets and a set of radiating singlets. The radar system also includes waveguide configured to guide electromagnetic energy between each of the plurality of radiating elements and a waveguide feed. The waveguide feed is coupled to the second side of the waveguide at a center location between a first half of the plurality of radiating elements and a second half of the plurality of radiating elements. The waveguide feed is configured to transfer electromagnetic energy between the waveguide and a component external to the waveguides. The radar system may also include a power dividing network defined by the waveguide and configured to divide the electromagnetic energy transferred by the waveguide feed based on a taper profile.

Abstract: Example embodiments relate to a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) with dual circular polarizations. An example SIW may include a dielectric substrate and a first metallic layer coupled to a top surface of the dielectric substrate with a through-hole extending through the dielectric substrate and the first metallic layer. The SIW also includes a dielectric layer coupled to a top surface of the first metallic layer. A second metallic layer is coupled to a top surface of the dielectric layer. The second metallic layer includes a non-conductive opening, a plurality of feeds with a first end in the non-conductive opening and a second end including a single-ended termination, and an impedance transformer. The SIW also includes a third metallic layer coupled to a bottom of the dielectric substrate, and a set of metallic via-holes proximate the non-conductive opening and coupling the second metallic layer to the third metallic layer.

Abstract: Example embodiments relate to low elevation side lobe antennas with fan-shaped beams. An example radar unit may include a radiating plate having a first side and a second side with an illuminator, a waveguide horn, a waveguide opening, and a radiating sleeve extending into the first side of the radiating plate. The waveguide opening is positioned on the first end of the first side and the radiating sleeve is positioned on the second end of the first side. The radar unit also includes a metallic cover coupled to the first side of the radiating plate such that the metallic cover and the radiating plate form waveguide structures. The waveguide horn is configured to receive, from an external source, electromagnetic energy provided through the waveguide opening via a first waveguide and provide a portion of the electromagnetic energy to the illuminator via a second waveguide such that the portion of the electromagnetic energy radiates off the illuminator and through the radiating sleeve into an environment of the radar unit as one or more radar signals.
