Abstract:
A surface cleaning apparatus comprises an air flow path extending from a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet. The surface cleaning apparatus also comprises a main body comprising a front end, a rear end, first and second opposed sidewalls. A cavity having an open upper end may be positioned between the first and second opposed side walls. A suction motor may be provided in the air flow path. A cyclone bin assembly may be provided in the air flow path. The cyclone bin assembly may have opposed end walls and may be removably mounted in the cavity. The cyclone bin assembly may include a locking member lockingly secures the cyclone bin assembly to the surface cleaning apparatus. The locking member may engage at least one of the side walls.
Abstract:
A cyclone bin assembly comprises a cyclone chamber having an air inlet, an air outlet, a dirt outlet and first and second opposed ends. The cyclone bin assembly may comprise a dirt collection chamber in communication with the dirt outlet. The dirt bin may surround at least a portion of the cyclone chamber and comprising first and second portions. The first and second portions may comprise discrete chambers that are separated from each other by a passage extending between the dirt outlet and a wall of the dirt collection chamber. The dirt outlet may have an angular extent around the cyclone chamber and a larger portion of the angular extent of the slot may face the first portion.
Abstract:
A surface cleaning apparatus comprises a filtration apparatus comprising a cyclone downstream from the dirty air inlet and an openable filtration chamber comprising a screen downstream from the cyclone and upstream from the suction motor. The filtration chamber is accordingly a separate volume to that of the cyclone chamber and accordingly may be accessed to clean the screen independently of opening the cyclone chamber.
Abstract:
An upright surface cleaning apparatus is operable in a floor cleaning mode and an above floor cleaning mode. The surface cleaning apparatus includes a first upstream air flow path extending from the dirty air inlet of the floor cleaning head to a downstream air flow path, and an above floor cleaning member removably mounted to the surface cleaning apparatus. The above floor cleaning member includes an alternate dirty air inlet. The surface cleaning apparatus also includes a second upstream air flow path extending from the dirty air inlet of the above floor cleaning member to the downstream air flow path. The surface cleaning apparatus also includes a valve selectively connecting the first upstream air flow path in flow communication with the downstream air flow path when the dirty air inlet of the above floor cleaning member is placed in a storage position on the upright surface cleaning apparatus.
Abstract:
Various uses and constructions for an open sided nozzle for a surface cleaning apparatus are provided. Alternate constructions for a surface cleaning head are also provided.
Abstract:
A surface cleaning apparatus comprises an air flow passage extending from a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet. A suction motor is positioned in the air flow path. At least one cyclone is positioned in the air flow passage. An associated dirt collection chamber is exterior to the cyclone. The cyclone and the suction motor are positioned side by side and have generally parallel longitudinal axes. The dirt collection chamber may surround part of the suction motor. Alternately, or in addition, a pre-motor filter having an enhanced surface area may be provided by configuring the pre-motor filter to extend outwardly of the pre-motor filter, such as by overlie part of the cyclone or the dirt collection chamber.

The surface cleaning apparatus may comprise a cyclone bin assembly comprising a cyclone chamber positioned in the air flow path. The surface cleaning apparatus may comprise a dirt collection chamber and a suction motor positioned in the air flow path. The cyclone chamber may have first and second opposed ends and a sidewall extending between the first and second opposed ends. The sidewall may have a first portion extending from the first opposed end towards the second opposed end and a second portion extending from the second opposed end towards the first opposed end. The first and second portions may meet at a juncture. The first opposed end and the first portion may be openable.
Abstract:
An upright surface cleaning apparatus has an upper section that is moveably mounted to the surface cleaning head between an in use position and a storage position. The upper section is rotationally mounted to the surface cleaning head. The upright surface cleaning apparatus has an alignment mechanism comprising a first cooperating alignment member associated with the surface cleaning head and a second cooperating alignment member associated with the upper section, the first and second members guiding the upper section to a particular orientation or range of orientations when the upper section is moved into the storage position.
