    摘要: An illumination device has at least one fluorescent tube, a lower frame supporting the fluorescent tube, a light diffusion plate which opposes the lower frame with the fluorescent tube being interposed therebetween for forward diffusion of output light of the fluorescent tube, a reflection sheet disposed along the fluorescent tube side of the lower frame for reflecting the fluorescent light toward the light diffuser plate, and an upside reflector covering an electrode of the fluorescent tube for reflecting the light toward the light diffuser. When letting a direction along a length of the fluorescent tube be a horizontal direction, a distance between the fluorescent tube and the reflection sheet at at least one of nearby portions of right and left ends of the illuminator is greater than such distance at a central portion thereof. A liquid crystal display (LCD) apparatus using the illuminator is also disclosed.

The cover member includes a shield plate, a fixed groove and an overhanging portion, wherein the overhanging portion is provided at an edge of the fixed groove and on a side of the liquid crystal panel with respect to the fluorescent tube which includes a portion which extends through the fixed groove. A portion of the cover member includes a protrusion which is a separate member from the overhanging portion and which extends more toward the liquid crystal panel than a surface portion of the overhanging portion.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display device includes a backlight device, a liquid crystal panel and a light source unit. The backlight device is capable of illuminating the liquid crystal panel in an excellent manner even when the liquid crystal display device has a thin structure. The light source unit includes a case having an opening surface, a fluorescent tube, an electrode holder, and a cover member. The fluorescent tube and the electrode holder are provided in the case. The electrode holder is adapted to hold an electrode section formed in an edge portion of the fluorescent tube. The cover member includes a shield plate, a fixed groove and an overhanging portion. The shield plate shields the electrode holder from a diffusion area in which light emitted by a light emitting section of the fluorescent tube is scattered. The fluorescent tube extends through the fixed groove. The overhanging portion is provided at an edge of the fixed groove and on the side of the liquid crystal panel with respect to the fluorescent tube, and protrudes toward the diffusion area. When a plane S1 includes the overhanging portion and is perpendicular to the surface of the liquid crystal panel, and a plane S2 includes a portion of the shield plate present between the fluorescent tubes adjacent to each other and perpendicular to the surface of the liquid crystal panel, a cross sectional shape of a portion of the cover member, which is taken along the plane S1, is different from a cross sectional shape of a portion of the cover member, which is taken along the plane S2. In this case, the portions of the cover member are located on the side of the liquid crystal panel with respect to a plane, which includes the overhanging portion and is parallel to the surface of the liquid crystal panel.
