摘要: An active matrix liquid crystal display device includes: a liquid crystal layer; two substrates sandwiching the liquid crystal layer; and electrodes respectively provided in the two substrates, the electrodes applying voltage across the liquid crystal layer. A first electrode (15) in the substrate including a pixel selecting element (11) has a striped electrode pattern (15c) aligning liquid crystal molecules along a stripe line direction when voltage is applied across the liquid crystal layer. A contact (25h) of the first electrode (15) with the selecting element (11) is formed in a region opposed to, along a film thickness direction, a first region to which a signal liner (GLi) is allocated. This provides a liquid crystal display device in which a contact is made with the pixel electrode having the striped electrode pattern having the periodical arrangement, while alignment disorder of the liquid crystal molecules is not reflected on display.

摘要: A VA-mode liquid crystal display device which includes a pair of alignment sustaining layers 34a and 34b formed by a photopolymerized material on surfaces of a pair of vertical alignment films 32a and 32b which are closer to a liquid crystal layer, and a cruciform opening 22a provided only in a counter electrode. When a predetermined voltage is applied across the liquid crystal layer, four liquid crystal domains are formed such that the azimuths of the directors of the respective liquid crystal domains are different from one another and form an angle of about 45′ relative to the polarization axes of a pair of polarizing plates. When no voltage is applied across the liquid crystal layer, the pretilt azimuths of liquid crystal molecules included in regions respectively corresponding to the four liquid crystal domains are regulated by the alignment sustaining layers 34a and 34b.

摘要: A liquid crystal panel includes (i) an active matrix substrate (10) on which pixel electrodes (12) are provided for respective pixels (8), (ii) a counter substrate (20) on which a common electrode is provided and which faces the active matrix substrate (10), (iii) a liquid crystal layer which is provided between the active and counter substrates (10, 20) and has a negative dielectric anisotropy, and (iv) two vertical alignment films (14, 24) provided over respective of the active and counter substrates (10, 20). The pixel electrode (12) has subpixel electrodes (12a, 12b) and connection electrodes (15) for connecting the subpixel electrodes (12a, 12b). Each of the subpixel electrodes (12a, 12b) has branch line parts (18) and a trunk line part (17) demarcated by slits (16). In the pixel (8), the subpixel electrodes (12a, 12b) are connected with each other via the connection electrodes (15) in a plurality of locations.

摘要: Disclosed is a liquid crystal display device of active matrix type. Each pixel electrode (1) includes either a single regional electrode (2) or two or more regional electrodes (2) which are electrically connected to each other. The or each regional electrode is provided with: a first electrode (cross-shaped electrode) (3) which has a pattern dividing a first region into a plurality of second regions (R1, R2, R3, and R4); and a plurality of stripe electrodes (4) which are provided in each of the second regions so as to extend from the first electrode and so as to be separated from each other by a distance. A storage capacitor line (CSL) is provided facing one of pixel electrodes (1) in a film thickness direction to form a storage capacitor. The storage capacitor line (CSL) is provided so as not to extend facing an edge (2e, 2e′) of a first region in the film thickness direction parallelly to the edge (2e, 2e′). The invention eliminates irregular orientation of liquid crystal molecules in polymer sustained alignment.

摘要: A high image quality liquid crystal display device having a high viewing angle characteristic is provided. The liquid crystal display device according to the present invention is of a vertical alignment type and includes a plurality of pixels. The liquid crystal display device includes a first polarizing plate having an absorption axis extending in a first direction; a second polarizing plate having an absorption axis extending in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction; a pixel electrode located in each of the plurality of pixels and including a first subpixel electrode and a second subpixel electrode to which different levels of voltage can be applied; a counter electrode facing the pixel electrode; and a liquid crystal layer provided between the pixel electrodes and the counter electrode. The first subpixel electrode includes a plurality of branch electrodes extending in an identical direction, which is a third direction different from a direction inclined by 45° with respect to the first direction or the second direction.

摘要: A liquid crystal display device according to the present invention includes: a vertical alignment liquid crystal layer; first and second electrodes arranged on one surface of first and second substrates to face the liquid crystal layer; and first and second alignment films arranged on the first and second electrodes, respectively, in contact with the liquid crystal layer. The first alignment film has been subjected to an optical alignment treatment by obliquely irradiating a first alignment film material, having a photosensitive wavelength within the wavelength range of 250 nm to 380 nm, with light including the photosensitive wavelength. The device further includes: a metal layer arranged between the first alignment film and the first substrate; and a first resin layer arranged between the metal layer and the first alignment film. The first resin layer has an optical property that attenuates the intensity of light, which has been incident on the first resin layer and then reflected from the metal layer, to 60% or less at the photosensitive wavelength.

摘要: A pixel has a first liquid crystal domain. In the first liquid crystal domain, first and second pretilt directions of liquid crystal molecules, defined by first and second alignment films, respectively, intersect with each other at substantially right angles. Also, in the first liquid crystal domain, when a signal voltage is applied to the liquid crystal layer to display the highest gray scale, liquid crystal molecules, located around the center of a plane of the liquid crystal layer and around the middle of the thickness of the liquid crystal layer, are tilted in a first direction that substantially equally divides the first and second pretilt directions into two. A driver applies a signal voltage to the liquid crystal layer of the pixel every vertical scanning period. At least while display gray scales are changing from the lowest gray scale into the highest one, the driver applies a voltage that is at least 0.96 times as high as the threshold voltage Vth of the liquid crystal layer in a vertical scanning period just before the signal voltage is applied to display the highest gray scale.
