摘要: A machining unit, typically for wood panels, features a work table afforded by a body of prismatic geometry having at least two faces and rotatable about an axis which is also its instantaneous center, in such a way as to establish at least two movable and tiltable work surfaces; the prismatic body is carried within a frame encompassing the tool and combining with the two faces to create respective independent work areas, one in which panels are fed to and from the unit, the other coinciding with a station at which machining takes place, and where the waste and chips generated by machining are cleared from the table and the work. The prismatic body also functions as the main barrier separating two work environments, the one an open external space occupied by the operator, the other an enclosure disallowing access to the operator while machining is in progress.

摘要: A table exchanging device for a wood working machine wherein workpieces of wood can be individually attracted and fixed by a sucking action by vacuum and such sucking action can be maintained also while the slide tables are slidably moved. The device comprises a pair of hollow slide tables having air sucking holes formed in upper walls thereof, a hollow bracket provided in a pneumatically communicating relationship on each slide table, and a hollow tubular shaft provided on each of a pair of left and right beds of the wood working machine and connected to a blower or a vacuum pump. A first hollow arm is supported for horizontal pivotal motion on each hollow bracket and pneumatically communicated with the follow bracket at their mutually connecting location. A second hollow arm is supported for horizontal pivotal motion on each hollow tubular shaft and pneumatically communicated with the hollow tubular shaft at their mutually connection location. Each first hollow arm is connected to the corresponding second hollow arm by means of a shaft and pneumatically communicated with the second hollow arm at their mutually connecting location.

摘要: A high speed drilling system is disclosed for high spped drilling of very small holes in workpieces such as printed circuit boards. The A-Y positioning system includes air bearings to provide lift between the stationary guide beams, the crossbeam and the top table, and further includes a vacuum preloading apparatus for providing a preloading force between the table and the guide beam. The preload force dampens Z axis oscillations which can result in drill bit breakage. The top table is a lightweight honeycomb structure, whose effective rigidity is virtually that of the guide beam due to the vacuum preloading. The system includes pairs of spindles, one a conventional spindle for drilling holes large than about 0.125 inches, and the other a high speed spindle for drilling holes in the range of about 0.003 to 0.125 inches. The high speed spindle includes a stationary spindle body carry the stator of the rotary drive motor. Only the spindle rotor is translated along the Z axis to perform the drilling movements. The rotor is supported within the spindle body by rotary and linear air bearings, and is axially driven by a linear motor. A toolchanger loaded by clips carrying the frilling bits is mounted on the top work table, and minimizes the time required to change drilling tools. The clips minimize the manual handling of the fragile drill bits. A vacuum hold-down apparatus is employed to secure the workpieces to a drilling station.

摘要: A box beam comprises at least two elongated component blocks of granite, each containing at least one flat surface, the flat surfaces having identical dimensions. Igneous rock material is removed from the flat surface of at least one of the component blocks so as to form at least one open cavity in that component block. The interior cavity has boundary walls of a predetermined, though not necessarily uniform, thickness. The two component blocks are then bonded together along the remaining unremoved portions of the flat surfaces so as to form a box beam.The system described above for manufacturing hollow granite box beams reduces weight while maintaining stiffness comparable to that of the composite ceramic or metal beams along with the inherent stability of granite, e.g., low coefficient of thermal expansion, in a highly efficient manufacturing process.

The horizontal router support member includes an edge guide transverse to the molding strip so that the cutter of the router is guided across the end of said first molding strip. The router fixture may be equipped with first and second work surface members and first and second horizontal router support members to trim the left or right ends of the molding strips.

摘要: The dowel hole drilling machine comprises a workpiece support. One part of the workpiece support and a crosspiece carrying the drilling unit are mounted to be pivotally movable in unison about an axis. That workpiece support comprises eccentrically mounted supports, which are adapted to be aligned and flush with the workpiece support and to protrude beyond a workpiece support, which extends at right angles to the workpiece support and is spaced the same distance from the pivotal axis as the workpiece support. The workpiece support serves to support the workpiece during a horizontal drilling operation. When the drilling unit is in a vertical position, the stops are flush with the workpiece support and serve as stops for the drilling of the first row of dowel holes. This results in an exact coordination of the drill and the workpiece support, which constitutes a stop for and defines the location of the reference edge during the horizontal and vertical drilling operations. That coordination will not be changed by the pivotal movement of the drilling unit.

摘要: An automatic set-up system is provided for setting up on a pallet work to be machined by a flexible manufacturing system automatic machine tool. The pallet has a support plate and a jig plate which overlies the support plate on which the work is placed. The support plate, the jig plate and the work are sequentially conveyed by a convey unit on a setting table. The relative positions of the support plate and the jig plate, and of the jig plate and the work are usually held constant by the engagement of positioning recesses and positioning pins. Even if the position of the jig plate or the work conveyed by the convey unit deviates from a predetermined position, a float base and a support plate (the float base, the support plate, and the jig plate) are floated by means of air bearing pads. The horizontal movement of these components can be readily controlled, so that positioning pins can be easily fitted in the positioning recesses. A clamp is mounted on the jig plate by a setting robot; and the clamp is clamped by a nut runner so that the work is fixed to the pallet. The machined work and the pallet are automatically cleaned by a cleaner; and the clamp is removed from the work resting on the setting table. Finally, the work is removed from the pallet.

摘要: An automatic set-up system is provided for setting up on a pallet work to be machined by a flexible manufacturing system automatic machine tool. 摘要: A system is disclosed for machining parts particularly parts having high volume demand, above average accuracy and requiring strict cost control. The system uses a plurality of cubic fixture cages to be conveyed between multiple work stations. At each work station the cubic fixture cage is lifted from the conveyor and indexed with respect to the tools at the work station by lift means in the cell part whereby the initial control is located at the top of the fixture cage, an area free of chips and other debris. The cubic construction for the fixture cage provides a positive, uniform and repeatable tooling index based on the geometric center of the cube, thus permitting the fixture cage to be rotated about both its vertical and horizontal axes utilizing a single, universal tooling reference point.
