    摘要: Embodiments are directed to a front end accessory drive (FEAD) and power modulating devices (PMD) which can be used in a FEAD. In one embodiment, a continuously variable transmission (CVT) is coupled directly to a crankshaft of a prime mover, and the CVT is used to regulate the speed and/or torque delivered to an accessory. A compound drive device includes a motor/generator subassembly cooperating with a CVT subassembly to provide a motor functionality with torque multiplication or division, or alternatively, a generator functionality with torque multiplication or division. In some embodiments, a FEAD includes a PMD having a sun shaft configured to couple to a sun of the PMD and to an electric motor component, such as an electrical armature or an electrical field. In one embodiment, the electrical armature the electrical field are placed concentrically and coaxially and configured to rotate relative to one another in opposite directions.

    摘要: The invention provides a piston which allows pressure generated downstream from the piston to be used to ventilate a combustion chamber of a cylinder in which the piston is slidingly mounted. The crank assembly to which the piston is connected is operable outside of the cylinder which is sealed at both ends. The crank assembly uses eccentric motion to allow a connecting rod which extends between the piston and the crank assembly to move linearly into and out of the cylinder in sealed manner. The piston includes a valve which allows pressurized gas to flow through the piston.

The eccentric bearings (27, 31) define in relation to the crank shaft (23) fixed axes of rotation (33) which, are angularly offset by 120.degree. in respect of one another. The cylinder rotor (25) is torsionally rigidly coupled to the crank shaft (23) solely via the piston rods (19) and their eccentric bearings (27, 31) which are fixed in relation to the crank shaft. The fresh air compressed by a waste gas supercharger (37, 39) is fed to the internal combustion engine via a heat exchanger (45) in order to increase the efficiency.

    摘要: A rotary reciprocating internal combustion engine is disclosed and includes a rotor with a set of four pistons driving respective spaced apart cranks. Each of the ends of the rotating cranks extends through a bearing in support plates on the rotor and includes a crank gear meshing with the teeth of a larger ring gear. The larger ring gear is fixed on the housing of the engine and is axially aligned with the rotor. The crank gears drive the rotor which in turn is fixed to and drives a power take off shaft. As the rotor is driven in the housing, fuel is supplied to the cylinders and combustion gasses are exhausted through openings formed in the housing. A pair of fuel intake ports, exhaust ports and spark plugs are provided for the four cylinders and pistons such that eight piston strokes are provided for each revolution of the power take off shaft.

    摘要: A two cycle rotary internal combustion engine of the fuel injection type. A rotor having three radially disposed cylinders in equally spaced angular relation in a circular rim rotates in sealed relation within a cylindrical stationary outer housing. The respective pistons in the cylinders are connected to the same crank arm of the crankshaft, which is in turn connected, through a planetary gear mechanism, to rotate in the same direction and at a three-to-one ratio of speed to the rotor. The outer housing has two exhaust ports and two fuel injectors in angularly spaced relation to which the cylinders are opened in timed sequence. Fresh air is supplied under pressure into the closed housing in surrounding relation to the cylinders for cooling the cylinders and for preheating scavenging air admitted to the interior of the cylinders through ports therein. Jets of air, provided by a hole in the rim behind each cylinder, serve to assist in combustion of hydrocarbons in the exhaust gases and also dilution of particulates. To reduce friction of the cylinder rings on the housing, due to centrifugal force, cylinder rings are slanted in a conforming groove to cause the component of compression pressure in the cylinders acting on the rings to oppose centrifugal force on the rings. In a modified embodiment, the crankshaft and rotor rotate reversely and in three-to-one speed ratio with four exhaust ports and four fuel injectors in substantial quadrature relation in the housing. A modified form of cylinder seal ring comprises a composite of a plurality of separate split rings assembled into close fitting tapered concentric relation.

    摘要: Expansible chamber apparatus for use either as an internal combustion engine or as a pump comprising a stationary housing, a cylinder block rotatable within the housing about a central axis, a shaft secured to and rotatable with a cylinder block with the longitudinal center line of the shaft constituting the above-mentioned axis. A stationary gear is carried by the housing and surrounds the shaft. The cylinder block has a plurality of cylinders therein with the longitudinal axes of these cylinders being tangent to a circle surrounding the axis. A piston for each cylinder is reciprocable within its respective cylinder and a connecting rod and an eccentric gear are provided so as to connect each piston to the stationary gear for effecting rotation of the cylinder block and the shaft relative to the housing and for effecting reciprocation of the pistons. Inlets and outlets are provided in the housing for the inlet and outlet of fluid to the cylinders as the cylinder block rotates and as the pistons reciprocate.
