The substrate heating apparatus includes a radiative heat source coupled to a processing system and configured to produce electromagnetic (EM) radiation, a translucent object positioned between the radiative heat source and the substrate along a the EM radiation path, and an opaque object also positioned between the radiative heat source and the substrate along the EM radiation path. The translucent object includes at least one textured surface to cause random refraction of the EM radiation passing through the translucent object, or an optical waveguide configured to encapsulate the opaque object and direct the EM radiation around the opaque object, or both, to prevent creation of a shadow of the opaque object on the substrate.

A portable high-intensity ultraviolet (UV-C) light gun is provided, the gun comprised of a high-intensity UV-C emitting light bulb mounted into a gun assembly. The gun assembly includes means for gathering and directing the high-intensity light emitted from the bulb and focusing the light into a beam that can be directed to a target. The gun assembly includes a light box that includes a bulb mount having electrical terminals for electrically connecting a UV bulb to a power source, and further includes a mirror for gathering and reflecting the emitted light towards an opening provided in the light box. One end of an elongated cylindrical hollow light tube is connected to the opening for channeling and focusing the emitted and reflected light from the light box toward the opposite open end of the tube. The tube can include a nozzle for further focusing and directing of the emitted light. Methods of using the gun to eradicate pathogens and other biological organisms are also provided.

A heating lamp bracket for reaction chambers of evaporation coating machines uses paired and insulation means to mount a plurality of heating lamps to a chamber wall of a reaction chamber. The bracket includes a mounting frame that has an insulation outer surface and a mounting outer face opposing to the insulation outer surface. The insulation outer surface has at least one insulation member located thereon for fastening the mounting frame to the chamber wall. The mounting outer surface has at least two independent mounting spots for connecting respectively a connection end of the corresponding heating lamp. The independent mounting spots and non-encased type insulation members of the present invention can effectively resolve the problems of difficult replacement of the heating lamps and defective insulation that happens to the conventional heating lamp brackets.

A unitary device requiring no assembly by a user is plugged into an electrical power source to provide freeze protection. The device includes a socket for holding a heat lamp and a pressure connector, such as a plug, for connecting to an electrical receptacle or a live lamp socket. A remote sensor monitors temperature at a location remote from the device, and causes a switch to energize the heat lamp when freezing temperature is sensed. The device is supported by the plug or other connection to the power source. A commercially available heating lamp is a preferred heating element. Ease of installation and lamp replacement make the novel device highly practical for homeowner use.

A heating chamber having a compartment which provides for heat sensitive packages of paper or cloth moistened cleaning wipes to be held for warming. The invention incorporates a heat deflector to assure that the heat is not directed against the bottom of the chamber. Heat conducting spaces insulated by outerwalls assure the container is evenly heated. There is easy access to and replacement of the package held. In the preferred embodiment, the container is held above the chamber floor and heat deflector so as to prevent direct heat from damaging the bottom of the container.

An elongated, coiled, electrical resistance heating filament is positioned along the major axis of an ellipsoidal reflector with its inner end positioned at the inner focus of the reflector and with the coil extending outwardly toward but short of an annular rim defining the front of the reflector. The coiled filament is supported by a pair of power supply leads connected to the inner and outer ends of thereof and forming stiff conductive support pillars mounted in a thickened support and seal portion at the apex of the reflector. The front of the reflector may be closed by a glass plate sealed to the annular rim. A secondary reflector may be provided on the major axis of the ellipsoidal reflector between the outer end of the coiled filament and the annular rim. The secondary reflector may be a figure of rotation of any shape, e.g., parabolic or conical, capable of throwing energy that would otherwise escape back through the coiled filament and serves to conserve energy and shield the eyes of the user.
