A power assist apparatus which includes a battery pack that connects with a motor housing with the battery pack being removably mounted on the frame of the bicycle and the motor housing being mounting on a mounting plate which is carried by one of the support wheels of the bicycle. The power assist apparatus is designed to not only assist in the manual operation of the bicycle but also as a sole source of power for the bicycle. The mounting plate is to be affixed to the frame of the bicycle upon the desired location being selected for the mounting plate. The motor assembly operates a drive gear, pulley or sprocket which connects to a driven gear, pulley or sprocket which is mounted in conjunction with one of the support wheels of the bicycle. The motor housing may be disconnectable from the mounting plate as also the battery pack is capable of being disengaged from the frame of the bicycle permitting the bicycle to be used as a conventional bicycle without the power assist apparatus. The motor assembly is indexed to the axle of the support wheel maintaining accurate alignment in all operating conditions and upon repeated engagements and disengagements of the support wheel from the bicycle frame.

A power clutch mechanism of a scooter is formed of a power unit, an elastic member, a connection rod set, and an urging member. The power unit comprises a suspension seat pivoted with a footboard of the scooter, and a motor mounted on the suspension seat and provided with an output shaft on which a drive wheel is mounted in such a manner that the drive wheel is detachably engaged with a rear wheel of the scooter. The elastic member connects the suspension seat and a rear fork of the scooter. The connection rod set is formed of a first rod member and a second rod member pivoted with the first rod member by a pivot such that the second rod member and the first rod member form therebetween an angle, and that the first rod member is pivoted with the rear fork, and further that the second rod member is pivoted with the suspension seat. The urging member has a first end pivoted with the rear fork, and a second end removably urging the pivot of the connection rod set, thereby causing the drive wheel to be disengaged with the rear wheel of the scooter. When the pivot of the connection rod set is not urged by the urging member, the drive wheel is engaged with the rear wheel of the scooter.

A suspension system for a motorcycle, including a motorcycle mainframe, a swing arm pivotally mounted to the motorcycle main frame about a pivot axis, and an air bag suspension unit. The air bag suspension unit includes at least one air bag constructed of an elastomeric material. Without tools, the rider can adjust the air pressure in the air bags while operating the motorcycle by use of a power switch operably connected to a small compressor mounted on the motorcycle. The air bag(s) are housed within a slidable housing and which is mounted at one end to the slidable housing and its other end to mounting brackets on the motorcycle main frame. The housing is attached at its front end to the motorcycle main frame and at its back end to the swing arm. The housing also includes slide rods fixed to its forward end which slide within a pair of bushings. One alternative embodiment incorporates a conventional shock absorber along with the air bags to improve the handling of the motorcycle on rough or uneven terrain. A second alternative embodiment incorporates hydraulic mounts and self-contained range-of motion limiters.
