Abstract: The disclosure relates to improved friction drive systems, control algorithms for friction drive systems, and automatic traction control for friction drive systems. Embodiments of friction drive systems and methods may improve control over an amount of normal force between a contact surface on a friction drive (e.g., disposed on a drive motor) and a tire or wheel of a wheeled vehicle. Embodiments of friction drive systems and methods may dynamically adjust the normal force between the contact surface and the tire or wheel in response to rapidly changing conditions, such as weather, road surface, and/or tire inflation. Embodiments of an automatic traction control system may adjust the normal force to avoid slippage while minimizing tire wear and maximizing battery efficiency. Embodiments of friction drive systems and methods may allow a user to calibrate or adjust the amount of normal force delivered based on their preferences or based on a selected mode of operation.

Abstract: A vehicle includes a frame, a front wheel mounted on the frame, a rear wheel mounted on the frame, an engine mounted on the frame, a motor mounted on the frame and a transmission connecting the rear wheel with the engine and the motor. A battery is mounted on the frame for providing energy to the motor. The motor can be used as a generator so as to transform motive energy produced via the engine into electric energy for storage in the battery. The engine may include a crankshaft, a pulley connected with the transmission and a first clutch arranged between the crankshaft and the pulley. The first clutch does not transmit power from the crankshaft to the pulley until an angular speed of the crankshaft reaches a pre-determined value. In a first aspect, the engine includes a manual starter connected therewith. In a second aspect, the engine includes an automatic starter connected therewith. A second clutch may be arranged between the automatic starter and the motor and switched between a neutral position and an active position. The transmission may include a shaft, a pulley mounted on the shaft, a belt connecting the pulley with a pulley secured to the rear wheel, a pulley mounted on the shaft, a belt connecting the pulley with a pulley mounted on a mandrel of the motor, a pulley mounted on the shaft and a belt connecting the pulley with a pulley mounted on the first clutch.

Abstract: An improved personal propulsion device that generally imparts thrust directly to the user. The device allows hands free control of thrust magnitude and direction so both hands can grasp and control bicycle handlebars and brakes, watercraft paddles, ski poles or other apparatuses. The device is adjustable vertically, on the users' back, higher to allow sitting in a canoe or wheelchair and lower for standing on skates, skis, kick scooters etc. In one embodiment, the device includes an air compressor that is operatively connected to a cam mechanism engaged with the propulsion mechanism to provide compressed air. In another embodiment, the device includes a gap control mechanism to reduce or increase the size of the air inlet gap between the lip of the propeller shroud and an air horn to decrease noise levels or increase propulsion. Abstract: An improved personal propulsion device that generally imparts thrust directly to the user. Abstract: The present invention is a collapsible two-wheeled vehicle, wherein the vehicle comprises a down tube and a horizontal stay that are pivotably connected to one another at midsections thereof as well as being slidably connected to steering and seat assemblies, respectively.
