The present invention relates to a lithography apparatus using catadioptric exposure optics that projects high quality images without image flip. The lithography apparatus includes a reticle stage, a wafer stage, and a catadioptric exposure optics located between the reticle stage and the wafer stage. The catadioptric exposure optics projects an image from the reticle stage onto the wafer stage. The projected image has the same image orientation as the image from the reticle stage. In other words, the catadioptric exposure optics does not perform image flip. The reticle stage lies on a first plane and the wafer stage lies on a second plane, where the first plane is orthogonal to the second plane. In another embodiment of the present invention, the catadioptric exposure optics projects an even number of reflections. The projected image is of high precision and lacks aberrations such as perspective warping and obscured areas. The invention can be combined with a dual wafer stage and with a dual isolation system.

Moreover, the optical pickup device includes a condenser lens, a cylindrical lens and a light receiving element for detecting a reflected light beam reflected by the reflecting section, and a control device for detecting the distance between the first and second lenses according to the result of detection and for controlling the second-lens-driving-use actuator according to the result of detection. With this structure, the occurrence of spherical aberration due to an error in the thickness of a cover glass of the recording medium and variations in the thickness of the objective lens is limited.

The present invention provides a position-control device for a light modulation device, capable of easily performing a position-control operation. A position-control device is provided with a reference projection lens built therein capable of being commonly used, the reference projection lens projecting light combined by a crossed dichroic prism and forming a projection image, and having a predetermined optical characteristic. If the position of the optical axis is aligned once when the reference projection lens was built in, it is not necessary to align the optical axes every time the positions of liquid crystal panels are controlled and the replacement of the liquid crystal panels and the crossed dichroic prism is only required, whereby the position-control operation can be easily performed.
