Abstract: A hand vacuum cleaner has a cyclonic unit comprising a first cyclonic stage and a second cyclonic stage. The front end of the first cyclonic stage has a front door that is moveable between a closed position and an open position. A latch secures the front door in the closed position. The openable front door has a door first end which is rotatably mounted to a front end of the cyclone unit. The latch and the handle are provided on one side of the hand vacuum cleaner when the openable front door is in a closed position and, when the hand vacuum cleaner is oriented such that the cyclone axis is horizontal and the upper side is above the lower side, the door first end is vertically spaced from the one side.
