    Abstract: The door stopper of the present invention is of a construction such that a door contacting member fitted into a guide cylinder sunk vertically into the floor is allowed to be set in two positions, in a door contacting state in which it protrudes from the floor and in a housed state in which the top is substantially level with the floor. According to this construction, the floor is able to be substantially flat when the door stopper is not in use so that it does not become an obstruction to floor polishers and wheelchairs.

    Abstract: Invention is directed to a compression spring mechanism, particularly in combination with a fencing system which incorporates a swinging gate. The mechanism, intended to automatically close a released and opened gate, comprises a cylindrical tube, mounted within the gate, a plurality of compression springs aligned end-to-end within the tube, and a spring housing secured to one end of the tube for receiving one of the compression springs. A cable, of predetermined length, passes through the housing and aligned springs and is secured to the spring end most remote from the spring housing. The other end of the cable is secured to a stationary member, such as a post about which the gate pivots. As the gate is opened, the springs are further compressed storing sufficient energy to allow closure of the gate when released.

    Abstract: A concealed hinge between the lid and chest of a freezer has a hook shaped support bracket with a leg and bight. The bracket leg is mounted within one wall of the chest and the bight defines substantially diametrically opposed first and second pivots. A mounting structure is provided to pivotably secure the lid to the first pivot of the support bracket. A fixed point is defined within the lid and a compression spring member is provided between the fixed point and the second pivot of the bracket. The bracket leg is mounted within the chest wall by plastic components which function as a thermal barrier.

    Abstract: A door-closing hinge comprising an upper barrel with a wing secured to the door and an aligned lower barrel with a wing secured to the door frame. A bolt rotatable in the lower barrel has a non-circular upper end fitting in a non-circular opening in the upper barrel and a lower stem portion of smaller diameter which extends to the lower end of the lower barrel and has in its lower end a central conical depression engaged by a pivot pin in the lower end of the lower barrel. At the upper end of the lower barrel there is a ball bearing between a threaded collar screwed into the upper end of the lower barrel and a washer on the bolt. A sleeve surrounding the bolt has inner pins slidably received in helical grooves in the bolt and outer pins slidably received in longitudinal grooves in the inner surface of the lower barrel so that when the door is swung from closed position toward open position the sleeve is moved upwardly against the force of a spring which tends to return the door to closed position. The lower barrel is filled with oil which acts hydraulically to control the rate of closing.

    Abstract: An electromechanical door holder-closer includes a conventional door closer which has a shaft rotatable in response to movement of a door between its open and closed positions and resilient means for yieldably resisting rotation of the shaft in one direction. A latching mechanism cooperates in a latching position with a uni-directional clutch mounted on the shaft to permit free movement of the door from its closed position toward its open position and to releasably retain the door in a selected hold-open position therebetween when the latching mechanism is held in cooperative engagement with the clutch. The latching mechanism is releasably retained in its latching position by a normally energized electrically operated holding mechanism. Means may be provided for adjusting the device from one hold-open position to another hold-open position of lesser opening by manually moving the door toward its closed position and to its new hold-open position while the latching mechanism is held in latched position by the holding mechanism. Means is also provided for overriding the latching and holding mechanism to release the door from its hold-open position in response to manual force applied thereto in the closing direction.

    Abstract: An improved latching lever assembly for use in an electromechanical door holder-closer having a closer spring, a dashpot, and an electromagnet. The electromagnet actuates the lever assembly to latch the spring-dashpot combination to effect a desired door hold open position. The lever assembly comprises a lever, a fulcrum at one end of the lever, and an armature located generally at the other end of the lever and electromagnetically coupled to the electromagnet. A latching detent is located on the lever intermediate the fulcrum and armature to latch a camming roller to arrest the spring-dashpot combination when the electromagnet is energized. An armature-lever coupling spring resiliently couples the armature to the lever to enable the lever to pivot about its fulcrum during manual override of the door holder-closer without a corresponding movement of the armature relative the energized electromagnet, thereby eliminating armature release noises.
