Abstract: A pneumatic play ball that includes an outer casing of non-stretchable material having a slit therein, the configuration of the casing depending on the nature of the ball. The casing encases a balloon of stretchable material which when unconfined is capable of being inflated to assume a generally globular form, the balloon having an air-passage stem. In its uninflated state, the balloon is inserted into the casing through an open port created by dilating the slit, the stem then projecting out of the port. After the confined balloon is inflated by blowing air through its stem to cause the balloon to conform to the inner surface of the casing and to assume the same configuration, the stem is knotted to seal the balloon. The knotted stem is pushed under the slit which, because the casing is subjected to tension by the inflated balloon confined therein, causes the slit to recover its undilated, substantially closed state whereby no portion of the encased balloon can be extruded from the casing when the ball bounces.

Abstract: A woman's sport shirt that normally functions as a waist-length T-shirt having a circular neck opening and short sleeves. The waist hem of the shirt is provided on opposite sides thereof with complementary snap buttons, or similar hand-operated connectors. When worn by a woman, the shirt is readily convertible into a halter-like garment by raising the waist hem above the midriff, then lifting the front section of the skirt above the head and rolling it behind the neck to create a yoke joining left and right portions of the front section which are then drawn across the bust of the wearer and interconnected by the snap buttons to form a bra-like bust support above the exposed midriff.

Abstract: A cassette player and slide assembly adapted to play back a pre-recorded magnetic tape cassette having a voice recording of a performer whose facial image appears on a transparency slide receivable in a holder attached to the player and provided with a window so that as one hears the performance, one also sees the performer. The player includes an audio amplifier whose output is applied both to a sound reproducer and to a light bulb producing light pulses in synchronism with the reproduced sounds. The slide holder includes a ground glass screen that supports the inserted slide and is back illuminated by the light bulb. The rear surface of the slide is masked to expose only the eyes and mouth of the image whereby only these are intermittently illuminated by the light pulses to impart realistic animation to the performer's image in the course of the played-back performance.

Abstract: A biofeedback therapy system in which an individual during a training run in stress control is intermittently subjected to stress-inducing stimuli while one of his physiologic functions is being continuously monitored. The individual is able to observe the effect of the stimuli on a stress-graduated tripartite scale, making it possible for the individual to regulate the function being monitored. The scale takes the form of three series of light indicators, the first being graduated in gross steps, the second in increments of a gross step, and the third in fractions of one increment, whereby the readout accurately reflects the prevailing stress level. The tripartite scale is provided with adjustable markers which can be set on the scale to present the stress level at the time a training run is commenced so that subsequent changes in stress level are seen as deviations from the set point.

Abstract: A technique for molding pieces of popcorn candy having different geometric shapes that are interfittable, making it possible for the user to integrate the pieces in any desired manner to create art objects that are both displayable and edible and have a flavor predetermined by the user. The technique is carried out by means of a corn popper which converts kernels of corn into a batch of popcorn and a family of molds having different geometric shapes. A bonding agent is prepared by boiling a blend including sugar and syrup to create a molten cream and then adding flavoring thereto. A portion of the molten cream is intermingled with the batch of popcorn and the resultant flowable mix is used to fill the molds. After cooling and hardening, the shaped pieces of popcorn candy are then removed from the mold and interfitted as desired, using the same molten cream to integrate the pieces to form an edible art object.

Abstract: An aroma-generating unit adapted to periodically discharge into the atmosphere bursts of aromatic vapor, the non-aromatic intervals between the bursts having a duration sufficient to avoid desensitizing the olfactory response of those exposed to the unit. The unit includes a hollow case whose upper wall has a vent therein and whose side wall has a slot to receive a replaceable cartridge provided with a porous mat impregnated with an aromatic liquid. When fully inserted, the cartridge is disposed below the vent and serves to define an air-confined chamber within the case. Disposed in this chamber is an electrical heater that is periodically energized by power pulses to heat and expand the confined air and to produce a positive pressure in the chamber forcing the heated air through the impregnated mat to rapidly volatilize the liquid and to produce bursts of aroma which are discharged into the atmosphere through the vent, which bursts are separated by relatively long, non-aromatic intervals.

Abstract: An aroma-generating cigarette lighter insertable into a dashboard socket having terminals connected to the vehicle battery. The lighter includes a cylindrical case that fits into the socket. Telescoped within the case is a spring-biased hollow plunger that has a heater unit attached to its front end and a center bore at its rear end. When the lighter is inactive, the heater unit lies within the case; but when the lighter is activated by pressing in the plunger, the heater unit is advanced from the case and its contacts then engage the socket terminals to effect energization of the unit. A hollow cylindrical cartridge whose diameter is less than the internal diameter of the case is coupled to the rear end of the plunger, the front end of the cartridge being provided with a hollow plug that is threadably received in the end bore of the plunger. Supported within the cartridge is a porous wafer impregnated with a volatile liquid fragrance. A thermally conductive rod is secured to the center of the heater unit and extends through the hollow plug into the hollow cartridge to supply heat to the wafer to promote volatilization of the liquid, thereby producing an aromatic vapor that is discharged into the atmosphere.

Abstract: A cigarette lighter adapted to function also as an aroma generator. The lighter is insertable into a socket in the dashboard of an automobile, the socket having terminals connected to the vehicle battery. The lighter includes a case that fits into the socket and a spring-biased hollow plunger that is telescoped in the case. The plunger is formed from a cylindrical shell having a cage projecting from its open rear end and terminating in a ring serving as the plunger knob. Attached to the front end of the shell is a heater unit which, in the inactive state of the plunger, lies within the case. To activate the lighter, the user presses in the plunger to advance the heater unit until its contacts are engaged by the socket terminals, one of which is a latching bi-metallic element, thereby energizing the unit. The resultant heat which is transferred to the interior of the shell also acts to deform and unlatch the bi-metallic element thereby disengaging the terminals and causing the released plunger to return to its inactive state. Receivable within the plunger is a replaceable fragrance cartridge having a shank which projects into the shell interior, the shank supporting a heat-responsive, aroma-generating element that is activated by the interior heat to exude an aromatic vapor that is vented into the interior of the vehicle.

Abstract: A disposable finger applicator adapted to facilitate the application of a two-component therapeutic agent to gum tissues for treating periodontal disease. The applicator includes a collapsible thimble which when in use fits on the index finger of the user, the thimble being bonded to the rear wall of a small envelope formed of opaque, non-stretchable film material containing a charge of hydrogen peroxide in an aqueous solution. Marginally secured to the front wall of the envelope and otherwise spaced therefrom to define an internal cavity is an outer layer of porous, sponge-like material, the cavity being filled with dry sodium bicarbonate powder. The front wall of the envelope is provided with a weakened zone, such that when the finger applicator is pressed by the user against gum tissue, the hydrogen peroxide solution trapped in the envelope then ruptures the weakened zone, thereby causing the solution to leak into the cavity and to intermingle with the sodium bicarbonate powder. The resultant slurry impregnates the outer layer and is extruded therefrom as the applicator is rubbed along the gums to therapeutically treat the tissues thereof and to at the same time stimulate the tissues.
