Abstract:
A process variable transmitter for measuring a temperature in an industrial process includes an infrared detector arranged to receive infrared radiation from a component in the industrial process. A memory contains temperature characterization information which relates the infrared radiation received from the component with an internal temperature of the component. Measurement circuitry is configured to determine the internal temperature of the component based upon the received infrared radiation from the component and the temperature characterization information.
Abstract:
A process instrument includes a transducer, a two wire interface, a microprocessor, a digital to analog converter, a first control circuit, and a second control circuit. A current passing through the two wire interface indicates a condition of the transducer. The microprocessor is interfaced with the transducer. The digital to analog converter receives a signal from the microprocessor indicating a current value. The first control circuit is coupled to the digital to analog converter and adapted to control the current passing through the two wire interface to the current value. The second control circuit is coupled to the digital to analog converter and supplies current to a secondary load.
Abstract:
An isolation manifold includes a manifold body, a process connection at a first end of the manifold body, a pressure transmitter connection at a second end of the manifold body, a passageway through the manifold body, an isolation valve, and a pressure limiting device. The process connection is for fluidly connecting the isolation manifold to a process vessel or conduit containing a process fluid. The pressure transmitter connection is for fluidly connecting the isolation manifold to a pressure transmitter. The passageway fluidly connects the process connection to the pressure transmitter connection. The isolation valve is operable to selectively block the passageway to isolate the process connection from the pressure transmitter connection. The pressure limiting device fluidly connects to the passageway between the isolation valve and the pressure transmitter connection. The manifold may preferably include a pressure snubber within the passageway to increase the flow impedance of the passageway.

A process variable transmitter for measuring a process variable includes a process variable sensor configured to sense a process variable and provide a sensor output. Measurement circuitry receives the sensor output and provides a measured output related to the process variable. Output circuitry provides a device output on a two-wire process control loop based upon the measured output. The output circuitry has a transfer function that is a function of an adjustable analog circuit component. A motorized actuator is configured to adjust the adjustable analog circuit component to thereby change the transfer function of the output circuitry. An optional calibration controller is also provided.

A differential pressure flow measurement system includes a pressure sensor coupled to measurement circuitry. An elongate probe is configured to be inserted into a conduit which carries a flow of process fluid. The pressure sensor senses a pressure difference in the fluid flow generated as the fluid flows past the probe. A vortex shedding stabilizer is positioned proximate the elongate probe and in the flow of process fluid. The vortex shedding stabilizer is configured to stabilize vortex shedding in the flow of fluid proximate the elongate probe.

A field device for use in an industrial process includes a housing having a cavity formed therein. A humidity-sealed electronics module has a first compartment formed therein and is positioned in the cavity. The humidity-sealed electronics module includes a seal board. The seal board separates the first compartment of the humidity sealed electronics module from a second compartment in the housing. A first electrical component in the first compartment is mounted to the seal board and a second electrical component in the second compartment is electrically connected to the first electrical component.

A field device for monitoring a process variable of an industrial process includes an image capture device. A process component exhibits relative motion as a function of a process variable. The image captures device captures an image which changes due to the relative motion of the process component. An image processor coupled to the image capture device detects relative motion of the process component and measures the process variable based upon the detected relative motion. Output circuitry provides an output related to the measured process variable.
Abstract:
In a process variable transmitter, a sensor signal is sampled, using a clock signal, at a sensor sampling frequency. Interference is also sampled at the sensor sampling frequency. A comparison is made to determine whether the interference at the sensor sampling frequency or harmonics of the sensor sampling frequency exceed a threshold level. If so, the clock signal is changed to adjust the sensor sampling frequency away from the frequency of the interference.

A replaceable seal system with high and low sides connectable to a coplanar inlet plate on a pressure transmitter. A first side of the seal system can be replaced without disturbing the sealing of a second side of the seal system. The seal system includes a stack of first and second plates with a central split line. At least one of the first and second plates is split along the central split line to provide for separate replacement on only one side of the system.
Abstract:
A magnetic flowmeter comprises a pipe section for process flow, a coil for generating a magnetic field across the pipe section, a current source for energizing the coil to generate the magnetic field at a coil drive frequency, and electrodes for sensing voltage induced across the process flow by the magnetic field. A processor calculates a function of the sensed voltage and generates a flow output based on the function. The processor adjusts an operating parameter of the flowmeter, such as electrode voltage sampling period, the coil drive frequency, or a phase shift, as a function of a sensed electrode-to-electrode or electrode-to-ground complex impedance.
