Abstract: A height adjustable conveyor system conveys articles between different heights as needed. The conveyor system includes guides that support the neck rings of articles to be conveyed, and the guides are mounted on an air conveyor having multiple sections so that the guides are caused to be flexed by different movements of the air conveyor sections. The air conveyor has pivotably coupled first, second, and third sections with the first section being vertically adjustable with respect to the third section and the second section being between and tiltable with respect to the first and third sections to thereby flex the guides as necessary to readily effect article height variations as needed between the input and the output of the system. Relative movement between the three sections of the air conveyor is effected by a lever pivotably connected with a fixed support and the first section of the air conveyor with the lever being actuated by a crank.

Abstract: A new and improved multi position bottle guide assembly for bottles suspended by a neck ring and conveyed by pneumatic power. The bottle guide assembly includes a pair of elongated guide rails positioned along the path of travel of a bottle which is pneumatically conveyed while supported by a neck ring. The rails are adapted to be in proximity to the sides of the bottle on opposite sides of its path of travel to preclude lateral movement. Further included are support mechanisms for the rails located at the ends of the rails. Also included are a plurality of rods for supporting the rails. Each rod has coupling mechanisms for the support mechanism at a first end and a piston at the second end. A block for each rod has a bore of a diameter essentially that of the diameter of its piston and extends through the block with its axis in alignment with the axis of the rod. Further included are a pair of axially spaced pneumatic ports extending through the block in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the bore and on opposite sides of the piston whereby when pressurized air is introduced through the port adjacent to the rail the piston moves away from the rail to accommodate larger bottles and when pressurized air is introduced into the port remote from the rail, the piston moves towards the rail to accommodate smaller bottles.

Abstract: An air conveyor for articles having outwardly extending flanges. Abstract: A pneumatic conveying apparatus for container bodies having neck rings. The apparatus comprises a plurality of pairs of laterally spaced neck tracks, each pair defining an elongated slot therebetween for slidably supporting container bodies by their neck rings and a plurality of inverted, U-shaped, interior channel members, each extending upwardly from one of the pairs of neck tracks spanning the slot and extending longitudinally substantially the length of the slot and having a cross sectional area sufficient to receive the portions of the container bodies above their neck rings, each interior channel member having a top wall and side walls with air directing louvers formed therein to provide a driving force for the container bodies. The apparatus further comprises an inverted U-shaped, exterior channel member extending upwardly from the neck tracks enclosing the plurality of interior channel members and extending longitudinally substantially the length of the slots, and pneumatic means to introduce air under pressure to the space between the exterior channel member and one of the interior channel members whereby such space may constitute a plenum chamber and direct a flow of air within the interior chamber in a direction dictated by the angle of the louvers for conveying container bodies supported by their necks on the neck tracks in the direction of the air flow.

Abstract: An apparatus for transporting plastic bottles which have a support collar near the opening. The bottles are suspended by the support collars on a guide track. Abstract: A preform carrier adapted to be received in the open end of a wide mouth tubular container preform for internally gripping the preform to permit carrying the preform from a heating station to a container blowing station. The carrier includes a flexible annular gripping member in the form of a gripping and sealing ring that is resiliently flexible in a radial direction, relative to the preform axis, for engaging the inner surface of the preform finish. Abstract: An apparatus is provided for the conveyance of preforms through a heating station to a stretching and blowing machine during the production of hollow articles from thermoplastic plastics materials, means of which preforms having different neck diameters can be heated satisfactorily and extremely uniformly without major modification of the apparatus. This is achieved by providing two endless toothed sections extending parallel to each other and have preform pick-up means mounted thereon. The preforms are collected and retained in position by the pick-up means as they pass through the heating station. The mutual spacing of the belts and, hence, of the pick-up means from one another and from the heating devices is adjustable. A further pair of endless drive belts are provided which rotate the preforms at desired circumferential speed about their own axes as they pass through the heating device so as to promote an even distribution of the heat in the preforms.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a machine for making a plastic covering on a rigid base article which in the illustrated form comprises a glass bottle and a conforming shrunken plastic covering thereon. The plastic is fed in oriented sheet form to the turret apparatus, cut into lengths and wrapped and seamed on successive mandrels as sleeves. Bottles are simultaneously processed to preheat condition and indexed over the sleeves, the latter telescopically assembled on the rigid base article, i.e., the bottle, and the combination carried to a heat tunnel. The plastic sleeve shrinks into snug surface fit on the adjacent surface portion of the rigid base article.The bottle is preheated in one of two embodiments by: (1) a preheat tunnel on the machine which raises the bottles from room temperature to about 220.degree. F., or (2) the preheat is carried over as latent heat in the glass bottle from the annealing lehr, a part of the bottle manufacturing process.The machine includes novel subassemblies comprised of (1) a bottle chuck and loading station for assuring proper loading of the bottles on the machine, (2) bottle handling, (3) plastic strip handling and feed mechanism for placing oriented cut lengths onto mandrels of the turret, (4) the turret for making seamed sleeves in succession and feeding them onto registered bottles carried by the bottle handling apparatus, and (5) unloading device for transfer of the covered bottles to a conveyor and with said transfer smoothening the bottom surface of the covering on the bottle.
