Abstract: The disclosed technology relates to a system configured to obtain external credentials for a user account external to a content management system, wherein the external credentials are associated with a content item stored on the content management system. The system receives, from a client device, a client request for data associated with the external user account and transmits, to an external source, a proxy-request for the data associated with the external user account, wherein the proxy-request comprises the external credentials. The system further receives the data associated with the external account and transmits the data associated with the external account to the client device.

Abstract: A content management system for collecting files from one or more submitters in a collection folder. A collector, who generates the collection folder, can invite one or more submitters to submit one or more files to the collection folder. A submitter submits one or more files along with one or more comments associated with the one or more of submitted files. The one or more submitters have limited rights to the collection folder. The limited rights can include uploading rights and prohibiting a submitter from viewing files that other submitters associated with the collection folder submitted. Thus, the collection folder is able to store files from the one or more submitters, but prevent them from viewing other's submissions.

Abstract: The disclosed technology relates to a system configured to receive, from a first client device, application data generated from the execution, by the first client device, of third-party application code embedded within a content item managed by a content management system, wherein the first client device is associated with a first user account of the content management system. The system is further configured to store, at the content management system, the application data as metadata associated with the content item and transmit, based on the received application data, a notification to a second client device associated with a second user account of the content management system with access to the content item.

Abstract: Anonymous comments and comment rooms can improve privacy and facilitate user activity in a collaboration content item system. Some embodiments include a method for anonymous comments that can include receiving a request to add an anonymous comment to a collaboration content item. The method can further include generating an anonymous user identifier for a user associated with the request. The method can further include inserting the anonymous comment in the collaboration content item with a representation of the anonymous user. The representation can include an anonymous avatar generated based on the anonymous user identifier. Some embodiments may include comment rooms for collaboration content items. Multiple users are associated with a comment room. Comments, annotations, or content updates to a collaboration content item performed within a comment room are visible only to the users associated with the comment room.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for obtaining a translation of a previous version of a display item to present on a graphical user interface when a translation of a current version of the display item is unavailable. A client device can request a translation of a display item in a graphical user interface invoked by the client device. The client device can send a server a first key corresponding to the current version of the display item, a second key corresponding to a previous version of the display item, and locale information describing the current location and/or language preferences of the client device. If the server cannot obtain a translation corresponding to the first key, the server can obtain a translation of the previous version of the display item in the language associated with the locale based on the second key.

Abstract: User authentication for a user device can leverage one or more fingerprint sensor regions capable of detecting and/or recognizing a user's fingerprints. The user can define a fingerprint gesture or sequence of fingerprint gestures as a passcode, with access to a protected function being conditional on the user performing the defined fingerprint gesture or sequence of fingerprint gestures. Different fingerprint gestures or fingerprint gesture sequences can invoke or authorize different functions of the device. Fingerprint gestures from two or more users in the same location or in different locations can be used to unlock a protected function of a device.

Abstract: A content management system aggregates and provides users' interaction with a content item for display in an activity feed. Events corresponding to the users' interaction with the content item are provided in conjunction with a user interface of a native application displaying the content item. Though provided in conjunction with the native application, the events are maintained separate from the content data of the content item and displayed in the activity feed by an application separate from the native application of the content item. The activity feed permits users to exchange chat messages and retrieve information for multiple versions of the content item.

Abstract: A content management system synchronizes content items across client computing systems connected by a network. Each client device has a storage allocation for synchronized shared content items. A client application on each client computing system creates shadow items, representing the content item but only containing the metadata of the content item. Attributes of the content item represented by the shadow item are stored in a file journal entry corresponding to the shadow item. When viewing attributes of the shadow item in the file system of the client computing device, the client device displays the attributes corresponding to the content item represented by the shadow item as opposed to the attributes of the shadow item itself. The attributes may show that the shadow item occupies negligible space on disk while displaying a non-zero content item size.

Abstract: An append-only data storage system is described that stores sets of data blocks in extents that are located in storage devices. During operation of the system, upon receiving a request to copy an extent from a source storage device to a destination storage device, the system creates a scratch extent on the destination storage device, and associates the scratch extent with a private identifier, whereby the scratch extent can only be accessed through the private identifier. The system uses the private identifier to perform a copying operation that copies the extent from the source storage device to the scratch extent on the destination storage device. After the copying operation is complete and the scratch extent is closed, the system associates the scratch extent with a public identifier, whereby the copy of the extent on the destination storage device becomes publically accessible to other entities in the data storage system.
