Abstract: The application relates to processes and systems that use a furfural compound for producing five-membered carbocyclic rings that are unsaturated, such as cyclopentene and cyclopentadiene. Examples methods for conversion of furfural compounds may include converting a furfural compound to at least a five-membered, saturated carbocyclic ring, and converting the five-membered, saturated carbocyclic ring in a presence of a catalyst to at least a five-membered, unsaturated carbocyclic ring.

Abstract: Sulfur-free, ashless, and low phosphorus-containing lubricant compositions for use as engine oil having improved oxidation stability. The lubricant composition can include about 60.0 mass % to about 99.8 mass % of an oil base stock, at least one ashless antiwear additive, at least one ashless detergent, and at least one antioxidant, based on a total mass of the lubricant composition. The oil base stock can include at least one polyalphaolefin and at least one alkyl naphthalene. The lubricant composition can contain less than about 0.05 mass % phosphorus, less than about 0.05 mass % sulfur, and less than about 0.05 mass % ash. The lubricant composition can be made by a process that includes combining the above-mentioned components to provide a lubricant composition.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to extrusion processes. In at least one embodiment, a method of forming a functionalized polymer includes introducing a polymer and a coupling agent to an extruder at a feed throat of the extruder. The method includes extruding the polymer and the coupling agent through at least a portion of the extruder via a plurality of intermeshing screws disposed within the extruder to form the functionalized polymer. The at least one screw of the plurality of intermeshing screws has a first mixing zone having a total length of about 4 L/D to about 6 L/D, a second mixing zone having a total length of 2.5 L/D to 3.5 L/D, and a third mixing zone having a total length of about 2.5 L/D to about 4.5 L/D.

Abstract: Methods of stimulating a hydrocarbon well are disclosed herein. The hydrocarbon well includes a wellbore that extends within a subterranean formation and a tubular that extends within the wellbore and defines a tubular conduit. The methods include retaining a sealing structure within the tubular conduit and, during the retaining, stimulating a zone of the subterranean formation. Subsequent to the stimulating, the methods include fluidly isolating the zone of the subterranean formation from the uphole region by at least partially sealing the plurality of perforations. Subsequent to the fluidly isolating, the methods include moving the sealing structure in a downhole direction within the tubular conduit. The methods also include repeating the retaining, the stimulating, the fluidly isolating, and the moving a plurality of times to stimulate a plurality of corresponding zones of the subterranean formation.

Abstract: Amine-functionalized organosilica materials are provided that have improved stability when exposed to oxidizing/oxygen-containing environments during cycling of temperature, such as the cycling of temperature that occurs when using a material as a sorbent during successive adsorption/desorption cycles. Methods of performing CO2 sorption/desorption with improved stability of the organosilica sorbent material are also provided. The improved stability is achieved in part by using amine-functionalized organosilica materials where the amine-functionalization is provided by functional groups that include primary amines but do not include secondary amines. Still further improvements in stability can be achieved when the functionalization is provided by a functional group that includes a primary amine while also not having any hydrogens on a carbon atom that is in the beta position relative to the primary amine.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for using a two-step process to capture CO2 from a process flue gas in an aqueous solution followed by conversion of the captured CO2 into metal carbonates for storage, transport, or other potential uses. In the first processing step, CO2 is removed from a process flue gas by contacting the process flue gas with an aqueous solution at a sufficiently high pH to enhance capture of the CO2 while reducing or minimizing other impacts on the vessel where capture is performed. The CO2-enriched aqueous solution is then passed into a second zone, such as a second vessel, for contact with a metal reagent, such as a metal oxide, metal sulfide, metal hydroxide, and/or metal silicate.

Abstract: A process for preparing a cement composition comprising an isoolefin-alkylstyrene copolymer and substantially free of an alkylstyrene monomer is described herein. The process comprises reacting the isoolefin monomer with at least a portion of the alkylstyrene monomer in a diluent to form an isoolefin-alkylstyrene copolymer, replacing the diluent with a solvent, reacting a halogenic scavenger with the unreacted alkylstyrene monomer in an absence of a free radical initiator in order to form a halogenic alkylstyrene compound without altering the isoolefin-alkylstyrene copolymer, and removing the halogenic alkylstyrene compound from the slurry to form the cement composition substantially free of the alkylstyrene monomer. Also disclosed herein is a composition comprising an isoolefin-alkylstyrene copolymer and an alkylstyrene monomer comprising a concentration less than about 20 ppm.
