Abstract: An encoder is an encoder that encodes a block in a picture using a prediction image of the block, and includes circuitry and memory. Using the memory, the circuitry: calculates a first average pixel value which is an average pixel value of first reference samples out of the first reference samples and second reference samples, The first reference samples are referable and located outside the block and adjacent to a first side of the block. The second reference samples are referable and located outside the block and adjacent to a second side of the block. When generating the prediction image, the circuitry applies the same prediction pixel value to inner samples among current samples to be processed that are included in the block. The inner samples constitute a quadrilateral region including at least two current samples in each of a horizontal direction and a vertical direction.

Abstract: An encoder includes circuitry and memory connected to the circuitry. The circuitry, in operation: splits one picture included in pictures into areas, intra encodes the entirety of an area among the areas; and switches areas to be intra encoded for each picture included in the pictures. In at least one of (i) generation of a reference pixel in inter prediction or (ii) loop filtering, only pixels in the area intra encoded or pixels in an area which precedes the area intra encoded in coding order are used among pixels included in the pictures.

Abstract: An encoder according to one aspect of the present disclosure encodes a block of an image, and includes a processor and memory connected to the processor. Using the memory, the processor partitions a block into a plurality of sub blocks and encodes a sub block included in the plurality of sub blocks in an encoding process including at least a transform process or a prediction process. The block is partitioned using a multiple partition including at least three odd-numbered child nodes and each of a width and a height of each of the plurality of sub blocks is a power of two.

Abstract: A decoding system decodes a video stream, which is encoded video information. The decoding system includes an attribute information acquirer that acquires first attribute information, indicating whether a dynamic range of luminance of the video stream is a first dynamic range or a second dynamic range that is wider than the first dynamic range, and a decoder that acquires the video steam and generates decoded video information. The decoding system also includes an outputter that, in a case where the first attribute information indicates the second dynamic range, outputs the decoded video information and maximum luminance information indicating a maximum luminance of the video stream in accordance with the second dynamic range. Further, in other cases, the outputter outputs the decoded video information and maximum luminance information indicating the maximum luminance of all pictures in the video stream.

Abstract: A recording medium includes a video stream of a standard-luminance range and a video stream of high-luminance range, which are used selectively in accordance with a playback environment. The recording medium also includes a subtitle stream of the standard-luminance range and a subtitle stream of the high-luminance range, which are used selectively in accordance with the playback environment. A playlist file includes a management region where playback control information relating to a main stream is stored, and includes an extended region. The management region stores first playback control information specifying playing of the video stream of the high-luminance range and the subtitle stream of the high-luminance range in combination. The extended region stores second playback control information specifying playing of the video stream of the standard-luminance range and the subtitle stream of the standard-luminance range in combination.

Abstract: An encoder includes memory and circuitry. The circuitry, using the memory, (i) selects a mode from among a plurality of modes each for deriving a motion vector, and derives a motion vector for a current block via the selected mode, and (ii) performs inter prediction encoding on the current block, using the derived motion vector, via one of a skip mode and a non-skip mode different from the skip mode. The plurality of modes include a plurality of first modes each for predicting the motion vector for the current block based on an encoded block neighboring the current block without encoding information indicating a motion vector into a stream. When a second mode included in the plurality of first modes is selected, the current block is encoded via the non-skip mode regardless of presence or absence of a residual coefficient.

Abstract: An encoder that encodes a current block in a picture includes circuitry and a memory coupled to the circuitry. The circuitry, in operation: selects at least one transform basis from among candidates for a transform basis which include a basis of a type-II discrete cosine transform (DCT-II) and at least one of a basis of a type-IV discrete cosine transform (DCT-IV) or a basis of a type-IV discrete sine transform (DST-IV); and transforms prediction error values of the current block, using the at least one transform basis selected. When the size of the current block is greater than a threshold size, the circuitry selects at least one transform basis after excluding at least one of the basis of the DCT-IV or the basis of the DST-IV from the candidates. The threshold size is at most half a maximum size to which the DCT-II is applicable.
