Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for selective audio segment compression for accelerated playback of media assets by service providers. A playback speed of the video segment of a media asset is calculated based on the duration of the video segment and a received playback time period. The system receives audio segments and corresponding priority weights. The audio segments with the lowest priority weight are removed from the group of various audio segments. The system then determines whether the duration of the remaining audio segments exceeds the received playback time period. If so, the system modifies the remaining audio segments by removing another audio segment with the lowest priority weight from the remaining audio segments. The system then rechecks whether the received playback time period is exceeded. If not, the system generates for playback the video segment based on the video playback speed and the remaining audio segments.

For example, when the user leaves home, a media guidance application, being executed on a user equipment device (such as a set-top box), schedules to record media assets that the user has expressed interest in, but has not explicitly scheduled for recording. If the user returns home before a recording has begun, the media guidance application does not record the media assets the user has not explicitly scheduled for recording.

In the locked mode, the interactive media guidance application may allow access to only certain media assets and/or limit the time period for which the media assets are presented.

The media guidance application may add any promising actor to a set of promising actors. The media guidance application may more frequently search the set of promising actors for an actor who can be classified as a relevant actor. Upon identifying a relevant actor, the media guidance application may include the relevant actor in a set of relevant actors. The media guidance application may then recommend actors to a user based on actors included in the set of relevant actors.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for presenting targeted metadata associated with media asset identifiers. For example, based on stored user preferences (e.g., the user likes a particular actor) and context (e.g., whether an actor is trending on social media near the user's location), the systems and methods may rank attributes associated with the media asset (e.g., title, actors, director, genre, etc.). The systems and methods may then determine a number of attributes that can be displayed based on a size of the media asset identifier (e.g., a cell in a grid-guide) and select the number of attributes that can be displayed (e.g., based on the number of characters, the top two ranked attributes are selected). The systems and methods then display the media asset identifier (e.g., the cell in the grid-guide) with the selected attributes.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for recommending a pause position. Media content is provided to the user device. In response to receiving a pause command, a measure of memorability of a current scene of the media content is determined. In response to receiving a pause command, a measure of memorability of a subsequent scene of the media content is determined. in response to determining that the subsequent scene is more memorable than the current scene, a recommendation is provided to a user to pause the media content after the subsequent scene. In response to determining that the subsequent scene is not more memorable than the current scene, providing of the media content is paused at the current scene.

Abstract: Systems and methods for resolving conflicts between paths of smart vehicles based on time remaining in media assets being consumed in the smart vehicles. For example, two smart vehicles may be traveling along routes that conflict (e.g., they will converge at a particular point in the routes and collide). In order to resolve the conflict, one vehicle is instructed to yield to the other vehicle until the path is clear. Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for dynamically modifying a playlist for reviewing highlights of a media event. A playlist comprising highlights of a media event may be generated by a media guidance application. A user command may be received by the media guidance application to extend or shorten the currently-playing segment of the playlist. To generate a longer version of the segment, the media guidance application may access the media asset from which the playlist was originally generated at a position corresponding to the currently-playing segment, and generate a longer version of the segment. To generate a shorter version of the segment, the media guidance application may remove a portion of the currently-playing segment. The media guidance application may replace the currently-playing segment with, and begin playing back, the modified version of the segment.
