Abstract: A terminal assembly is configured to terminate a shielded cable having an inner conductor, an inner insulator surrounding the inner conductor, an outer conductor surrounding the inner insulator, and an outer insulator surrounding the outer conductor. This terminal assembly includes a generally cylindrical outer ferrule formed of a plastic conductive material, i.e. a material that is deformed after stress is removed, and a generally cylindrical inner ferrule formed of an elastic dielectric material i.e. a material that recovers after stress is removed, having a plurality of circumferential grooves defined in an outer surface thereof. At least a portion of the inner ferrule is disposed within the outer ferrule. A portion of the outer conductor is disposed intermediate the inner ferrule and the outer ferrule and is in intimate contact therewith.

Abstract: A system for operating an automated vehicle includes a perception-sensor, a display, and a controller-circuit. The perception-sensor is used to determine a rendering of an area proximate to a host-vehicle. The display is operable to convey to an operator of the host-vehicle a position of an object present in the area in accordance with the rendering. The controller-circuit is in communication with the perception-sensor and the display. The controller-circuit is configured to operate the host-vehicle in an autonomous-mode, and operate the display to convey to the operator a history of the position of the object in accordance with the rendering. The history is conveyed in response to initiating a transition of operation of the host-vehicle from the autonomous-mode to a manual-mode.

Abstract: A system for operating an automated vehicle in a crowd of pedestrians includes an object-detector, optionally, a signal detector, and a controller. The object-detector detects pedestrians proximate to a host-vehicle. The signal-detector detects a signal-state displayed by a traffic-signal that displays a stop-state that indicates when the host-vehicle should stop so the pedestrians can cross in front of the host-vehicle, and displays a go-state that indicates when the pedestrians should stop passing in front of the host-vehicle so that the host-vehicle can go forward. The controller is in control of movement of the host-vehicle and in communication with the object-detector and the signal-detector. The controller operates the host-vehicle to stop the host-vehicle when the stop-state is displayed, and operates the host-vehicle to creep-forward after a wait-interval after the traffic-signal changes to the go-state when the pedestrians fail to stop passing in front of the host-vehicle.

Abstract: A device for distinguishing between traversable and non-traversable objects. The device includes: an object-detection sensor unit configured generate data about a space around the sensor, a map generation unit configured to use the data to generate an occupancy grid map and a free space grid map for the space around the object-detection sensor unit. Each of the occupancy grid map and the free space grid map includes an array of cells. Each cell of the occupancy grid map contains an occupied space probability value representing the probability for the respective cell being occupied and each cell of the free grid map contains a free space probability value representing the probability for the respective cell being free. The device includes a classifier unit configured to classify at least one of the cells as containing a traversable or non-traversable object by calculating a difference of two free space probability values derived from the free space probability values of at least two of the cells adjacent to the at least one cell and by using the difference as well as the occupied space probability value of the at least one cell to classify the at least one cell.

Abstract: Among other things, we describe techniques for detecting objects in the environment surrounding a vehicle. A computer system is configured to receive a set of measurements from a sensor of a vehicle. The set of measurements includes a plurality of data points that represent a plurality of objects in a 3D space surrounding the vehicle. The system divides the 3D space into a plurality of pillars. The system then assigns each data point of the plurality of data points to a pillar in the plurality of pillars. The system generates a pseudo-image based on the plurality of pillars. The pseudo-image includes, for each pillar of the plurality of pillars, a corresponding feature representation of data points assigned to the pillar. The system detects the plurality of objects based on an analysis of the pseudo-image. The system then operates the vehicle based upon the detecting of the objects.

Abstract: An electrical assembly includes a planar first member formed of a first electrically conductive material defining an aperture therethrough. The assembly also includes a second member distinct from the first member that is formed of a second electrically conductive material. The assembly further includes a contact spring formed of a third electrically conductive material disposed within the aperture. The contact spring is in physical and electrical contact with the first and second members. The contact spring has a planar base portion, an arcuate portion extending from the base portion in contact with the second member, and two winged portions extending from distal edges of the base portion. The two winged portions flank the base portion. Each of the two winged portions are in contact with an inner surface of the aperture.

Abstract: A connector assembly includes a connector-body having electrical-terminals. The electrical-terminals are inserted into cavities defined by the connector-body through apertures defined in a rear-face of the connector-body. The connector-body includes a lock feature configured to releasably lock the electrical-terminals within the cavities. The lock feature has a planar-member with a first-end and a second-end. The first-end defines a flex-lock feature. The second-end is attached by a hinge to a leading-edge of the outer-surface of the connector-body proximate the front-face. The flex-lock feature defines a hook-side and a wall-side disposed within a slot defined by the connector-body. The hook-side is configured to releasably engage a locking-shelf partially enclosing the slot. The wall-side engages the electrical-terminals when the hook-side engages the locking-shelf. When a removal-force is applied to the electrical-terminals, the removal-force is transferred through the hook-side to the locking-shelf, thereby inhibiting removal of the electrical-terminals from the cavities.
