The method comprising for each respective type of 3D arrangement, constructing 3D scenes each comprising 3D modeled objects arranged according to the respective type of 3D arrangement, generating 2D images each representing a respective 2D perspective of a respective constructed 3D scene where visible 3D modeled objects are among the 3D modeled objects of the respective constructed 3D scene which are arranged according to the respective type of 3D arrangement, and adding to the dataset training patterns each including a respective generated 2D image and information indicative of the respective type of 3D arrangement. Such a method improves 2D image classification.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a computer system and methods for designing a tunnel in accordance with tunnel design parameters. The computer system and methods load a tunnel design as a visual model of a respective tunnel on a user interface. The computer system and methods enable a user to select a point on the user interface, such that the point defines one or more objects of the visual model. The computer system and methods further enable the user, using a pointing device, to move the point toward a desired location on the user interface, such that the pointing device traverses a plurality of locations on the user interface. As the pointing device traverses each of the plurality of locations, the computer system and methods provide a real-time preview of the respective placement of the selected point and the one or more defined objects on the user interface. If the computer system or methods determine that the respective placement fails to conform to specified tunnel design parameters, the computer system and methods may: prevent the preview from updating to the respective location, automatically fix the respective placement in the preview to conform to the specific tunnel design parameters, or visually indicate in the preview the one or more defined objects that fail to conform.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method designs a supporting structure for the packaging of a solid object. The supporting structure comprises a plurality of linear support elements suitable to sustain the solid object inside a packaging container. The method includes: a) providing, as an input, a three-dimensional model of the solid object; b) computing a first cumulative linear mass density distribution of the solid object according to a first axis (x); and c) using said first cumulative linear mass density distribution to determine the positions, along said first axis, of a first plurality of said linear support elements oriented transversally to said first axis. The resultant positions enable even distribution of the weight of the solid object among the linear support elements of said first plurality. A computer program product, computer-readable data-storage medium, and CAD system carry out such a method. A supporting structure designed according to embodiments, and its manufacturing method.

Abstract: A common task when designing computer-aided design (CAD) assemblies is to ensure that the tolerances applied to each component are such that the assembly will function as expected when the parts are made to the extremes of their tolerance zones. The disclosed methods and systems automatically generate dimension and tolerance information for fastened components. Given a source component with dimensions and tolerances, the dimensions and tolerances are automatically applied to mating entities of a target component such that fit is insured without interference when the parts are manufactured at worst case, or at the extremes of their tolerance zones.
