Abstract:
Therapeutic compounds which are cell proliferation modulators, preferably inhibitors. These modulators contain amino acid structures that are arranged as a hydrophilic analog of an alpha-fetoprotein. The modulator may be a peptide itself, e.g., an octapeptide like that of SEQ ID NO: 5; a peptidomimetic; or may be in the form of a pharmaceutically acceptable scaffold, such as a polycyclic hydrocarbon to which is attached the necessary amino acid structures for biological and/or chemical activity. The modulators of the invention are distinguished in one aspect over previous compounds in that they are orally active, and therefore do not have to be injected into the patient. The compositions and methods are useful for reducing estrogen-stimulated growth of cells, and treating or preventing cancer, such as breast cancer. The treatment or prevention methods can include the use of tamoxifen therapy in combination with the peptide therapy.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a wireless headset that anchors voice communications or calls to the wireless headset. This wireless headset includes wireless interface(s), and earpiece, a microphone, processing module, and a user interface. The wireless interface(s) wirelessly couples the wireless headset to a base unit via a wireless personal area network (WPAN). The earpiece renders inbound portions of the service calls audible while the microphone is operable to produce the outbound portion of the call. Both the earpiece and microphone are communicatively coupled to the wireless interface(s). The processing module also coupled to the wireless interface(s) allows the wireless headset to initiate call functions between the wireless headset and a servicing network made available through the base unit, service a call and call control functions, and anchor the call to the wireless headset. The user interface in conjunction with the processing module allows the wireless headset to initiate commands and/or call control functions based upon user input.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are provided for creating a personal area network with a wireless keyboard, comprising generating a text message on a keyboard integrated display to prompt a user to enter a password, determining all available personal area network devices and displaying a subset of the available personal area network devices based upon access permissions associated with the password. Generally, the wireless keyboard includes logic for generating prompts to a user to create a master password and user passwords with defined access privileges. Moreover, a user, by utilizing the display, may select alternate or additional devices with which to couple. In one embodiment, the wireless keyboard is further operable to send and receive text messages with a cell phone which are further propagated through a cellular network using legacy text message protocols.
Abstract:
A modular wireless headset having integrated but detachable elements is operable to service a cellular wireless terminal, streamed media or playback device. This modular wireless headset may include a wireless microphone and a wireless earpiece. The wireless earpiece may physically couple to the wireless microphone and a base unit in order to exchange information and share power resources. A power distribution controller allocates power between the wireless earpiece, wireless microphone, and base unit when physically coupled to operate or charge internal power supplies of the components.
Abstract:
A wireless terminal enacts a boundary violation notification rule that includes geographic boundary and an action or a mobility violation notification rule that includes a mobility parameter and an action. The wireless terminal determines its location and/or rate of motion by accessing the GPS receiver of the wireless terminal. The wireless terminal then compares its location to the geographic boundary and/or its rate of motion to the mobility parameter. When comparison is unfavorable, the wireless terminal executes the action by sending a message to a destination device via its wireless interface and a supporting wireless network infrastructure. This message may be sent to a partnered wireless terminal, a partnered landline terminal, a monitoring location, or to another location to which the message is relevant. In addition to sending the message, the wireless terminal may also issue an audible alarm, take a picture, or perform another action.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are provided for call setup in a communication network that comprises at least one mobile station to facilitate the hand-off of a wireless headset from a mobile station that has been docked to a landline base unit that includes a radio front end operable to communicate with the wireless headset. Generally, the embodiments of the invention include establishing a first voice path through at least one switching element between a calling party and a called party in a communication network where at least one of the called and calling parties is communicating with the mobile station or, more generally, with a wireless telephone. Thereafter, a first wireless headset communication link is established between the wireless telephone and the wireless headset unit.
Abstract:
A metadata-based application model for software systems provides for the integration and storing of application metadata with the application itself effectively replacing the system registry. In calling or updating the application components or modules, queries to the metadata within the application folders returns references to the files with metadata that matches the query. The component or modules are called or updated within the file using the returned reference. The present invention also provides a data structure comprising a data field for the application code and another field for the metadata.
Abstract:
A system and method that provides a message engine to facilitate intra-day receiving of first data relative to the trade transaction on behalf of one party to the trade transaction, wherein the first data include a code identifying an opposing party to the transaction; sending a message to the designated opposing party prior to submitting the trade transaction for matching prior to end-of-day clearing; and monitoring a message queue for a response and sending a message to at least one of the parties based on the response.
Abstract:
A method for using multiple independent data pathways to accomplish a task is disclosed. The method includes determining availability of multiple independent data pathways, where at least one of the data pathways utilizes transmission and receipt of data through an over-the-air antenna, selecting at least two of the data pathways, based on certain criteria and sending and receiving data along the selected at least two data pathways to accomplish a task.
Abstract:
A method of installing multiple over-the-air antennas is disclosed. The method includes the steps of mounting a satellite antenna to a installation surface, such that the mounting allows the satellite antenna to be aimed at a satellite, attaching a broadband access antenna to one of the installation surface and a portion of the satellite antenna, such that the attaching allows the broadband access antenna to be aimed at a broadband access source, connecting first wiring from the broadband access antenna to a first downconverter and second wiring from the satellite antenna to a second downconverter, providing outputs of the first and second downconverters to a cable in communication with at least a satellite receiver and positioning, on at least a coarse scale, the satellite antenna and the broadband access antenna such that they are approximately pointed at the satellite and the broadband access source, respectively.
