摘要: An external antenna adapted to a communication host and a wireless communication system are provided. The wireless communication system includes the external antenna and the communication host. The external antenna includes a first antenna element, a second antenna element, a logic determination circuit and a switching circuit. The first antenna element is configured to receive a wireless signal when the communication host operates in a reception mode. The second antenna element is configured to transmit the wireless signal when the communication host operates in a transmission mode. The logic determination circuit coupled to the communication host is configured to determine whether the communication host operates in the reception mode or the transmission mode so as to generate a determination result. The switching circuit, coupled to the logic determination circuit, is configured to selectively couple to the first antenna element or the second antenna element based on the determination result.

The base station includes a first antenna array comprising one or more antennas configured to form a first cell coverage area extending substantially from a horizon up to a first elevation angle away from the first antenna array to a predetermined distance from the first antenna array. The base station further includes a second antenna array configured at an uptilt elevation angle to form a second cell coverage area extending at least from the first elevation angle to a second elevation away from the second antenna array, wherein the first cell coverage area and the second cell coverage area are concentric to define the ATG cell at least to the predetermined distance and up to a predetermined elevation.

摘要: A method for upgrading a dual-band antenna assembly to a tri-band antenna assembly is provided. The dual-band antenna assembly includes a main reflector, and first and second antenna feeds arranged in a coaxial relationship and directed toward the main reflector. The first and second antenna feeds are for first and second frequency bands, respectively. The method includes positioning a third antenna feed through a medial opening in a center of the main reflector, with the third antenna feed directed towards the first and second antenna feeds. The third antenna feed is for a third frequency band. A subreflector is positioned between the main reflector and the first and second antenna feeds. The subreflector includes a frequency selective surface (FSS) material that is reflective for the third frequency band and transmissive for both the first and second frequency bands.

摘要: In one embodiment, an antenna system is described. The antenna system includes a primary antenna on an aircraft. The primary antenna is mechanically steerable and has an asymmetric antenna beam pattern with a narrow beamwidth axis and a wide beamwidth axis at boresight. The antenna system also includes a secondary antenna on the aircraft, the secondary antenna including an array of antenna elements. The antenna system also includes an antenna selection system to control communication of a signal between the aircraft and a target satellite via the primary antenna and the secondary antenna. The antenna selection system switches communication of the signal from the primary antenna to the secondary antenna when an amount of interference with an adjacent satellite reaches a threshold due to the wide beamwidth axis of the asymmetric antenna beam pattern.
