    Abstract: A communication technique of fusing a 5th generation (5G) communication system for supporting higher data transmission rate beyond a 4th generation (4G) system with an Internet of Things (IoT) technology and a system thereof are provided. The communication technique may be applied to intelligent services (e.g., smart home, smart building, smart city, smart car or connected car, health care, digital education, retail business, security and safety related service, or the like) based on the 5G communication technology and the IoT related technology. In order to support sufficient uplink coverage, two structures of an uplink control channel and a multiplexing method with other channels, a method in which long term evolution (LTE) and 5G systems coexist in a single carrier, and a method for reducing an overhead of downlink control information are provided.

    Abstract: A communication method and system for converging a 5G communication system for supporting higher data rates beyond a 4G system with a technology for Internet of Things (IoT) is disclosed. A method of a terminal in a wireless communication system is provided. The method includes receiving downlink control information (DCI) including frequency domain resource allocation information on a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) from a base station, identifying an allocated resource for transmitting or receiving data based on the frequency domain resource allocation information, and transmitting or receiving the data on the allocated resource. When the frequency domain resource allocation information is based on a first bandwidth part of a first bandwidth and the DCI is for a second bandwidth part corresponding to a second bandwidth, the allocated resource is identified by applying a scaling factor based on the first bandwidth and the second bandwidth.
