摘要: A turbine blade having an airfoil portion includes a first ceramic matrix composite (CMC) component having a first outer surface and a second ceramic matrix composite (CMC) component having a second outer surface. The second CMC component is positioned adjacent the first CMC component such that the first outer surface and the second outer surface align with one another and at least partially define the airfoil portion. A ceramic bead is at least partially formed at an interface between the first CMC component and the second CMC component. The formation of the bead melts a portion of the first CMC component and the second CMC component, such that the ceramic bead, the first CMC component, and the second CMC component become a single contiguous component and the bead fixedly attaches the first CMC component and the second CMC component. The bead includes a bead outer surface that extends outward beyond the first outer surface and the second outer surface and an overlayer is deposited onto the airfoil portion, the overlayer bonded to the first outer surface, the second outer surface, and the bead outer surface.

摘要: A gas turbine sealing interface to seal a gap between a transition duct and a turbine section component is provided. The transition duct includes an outlet exit frame including at least one fastener hole. The turbine section component includes a first stage vane structure including an upstream lip. A seal couples the outlet exit frame to the first stage turbine vane structure. An L-shaped rail including a flat portion and a lipped portion disposed perpendicularly to the flat portion. The seal is secured to the outlet exit frame via the L-shaped rail. An upstream portion of the seal includes a U-shaped cross section forming a first groove. A downstream portion of the seal comprises a groove which engages the upstream lip of the first stage turbine vane structure. A gas turbine engine including a radially inner sealing interface and a radially outer sealing interface is also provided.

摘要: An airfoil for a turbine engine includes an array of features positioned in an interior portion of the airfoil. Each feature extends from a pressure side to a suction side. The array includes multiple radial rows (A-N) of features with the features in each row (A-N) being interspaced radially to define coolant passages therebetween. The radial rows (A-N) are spaced along a forward-to-aft direction toward an airfoil trailing edge. The coolant passages of the array are fluidically interconnected to lead a pressurized coolant toward the trailing edge via a serial impingement on to the rows of features. The coolant passages are geometrically configured to bias a coolant flow therethrough toward a first side in relation to a second side of the outer wall to effect a greater cooling of the first side than the second side.

摘要: Melting energy exemplified by an arc (24) is delivered to a metal alloy material (22, 23), forming a melt pool (26). A metal oxide material (34) is delivered (33) to the melt pool and dispersed therein. The melting energy and oxide deliveries are controlled (44) to melt the alloy material, but not to melt at least most of the metal oxide material. The deliveries may be controlled so that the melting energy does not intercept the metal oxide delivery. The melting energy may be controlled to create a temperature of the melt pool that does not reach the melting point of the metal oxide. Deliveries of the melting energy and the oxide may alternate so they do not overlap in time. A cold metal transfer apparatus (22) and process (18, 19, 20) may be used for example in combination with an oxide particle pulse delivery device (42, 46).

摘要: A method and system for recognizing (and/or predicting) failures of sensors used in monitoring gas turbines applies a sparse coding process to collected sensor readings and defines the L-1 norm residuals from the sparse coding process as indicative of a potential sensor problem. Further evaluation of the group of residual sensor readings is perform to categorize the group and determine if there are significant outliers (“abnormal data”), which would be considered as more likely associated with a faulty sensor than noisy data. A time component is introduced into the evaluation that compares a current abnormal result with a set of prior results and making the faulty sensor determination if a significant number of prior readings also have an abnormal value. By taking the time component into consideration, the number of false positives is reduced.

The profile strip is placed on top side and bottom side surfaces of the stator bar strand assembly. The profile strip includes uncured strip consisting of uncured material. The profile strip includes pre-cured strip consisting of pre-cured material. The pre-cured strip includes cavities perforated through its thickness. The profile strip enables the generator stator bar to be manufactured by a single press and heat operation to achieve a rectangular geometry having round outer edges and to maintain orientations of stator bar strands parallel to the profile strip.

摘要: A device and method to aid in lapping a spherical washer to a steam turbine component are provided. The device includes a drive head, the drive head made up of a drive cap and a hollow cylindrical portion projecting from the drive cap. The drive cap abuts a surface of the spherical washer. The cylindrical portion fits within and is concentric to an inner diameter of the spherical washer. The device also includes an expanding gasket including an outer diameter having a contour configured to fit a contour of an inner diameter of the spherical washer and an inner diameter slides onto the cylindrical portion such that the gasket and cylindrical portion are concentric. The drive head attaches to a drive unit which imparts a torque to lap the spherical washer with respect to a steam turbine component. The expanding gasket expands and holds the spherical washer during the lapping.

摘要: A method for scanning a weld buildup formed on a circumferential portion of a disc for a steam turbine. The method includes providing an ultrasound probe for generating at least one ultrasound beam sweep. The circumferential portion is scanned with a first beam sweep oriented in a first beam orientation to detect a first flaw type in the weld buildup. The circumferential portion is also scanned with a second beam sweep oriented in a second beam orientation to detect a second flaw type in the weld buildup. Further, the circumferential portion is scanned with a third beam sweep oriented in a third beam orientation to detect a third flaw type in the weld buildup. The method also includes rotating the disc about a disc axis during scanning of the circumferential portion and moving the first, second and third beam sweeps in a direction parallel to the disc axis during scanning.

摘要: A method for operating a combined cycle power plant (CCPP) and improving a part load operation of the CCPP is provided. The CCPP may include at least a gas turbine, a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) located downstream of the gas turbine, a main steam turbine, and a supercritical steam turbine. The HRSG may include a low pressure steam system, an intermediate pressure steam system, and a high pressure steam system. To improve the part load efficiency of the CCPP, a base load operation of the CCPP may be initiated with supercritical pressure, via the supercritical steam turbine, such that the efficiency impact resulting from the part load operation is reduced.
