In one aspect, a roving receiver unit is carried by an asset to be tracked within the terminal. It includes a GPS receiver that receives GPS signals and the DGPS correction data from the DGPS reference receiver. A tag transmitter transmits a wireless RF signal containing GPS location data based on received GPS signals and DGPS correction data. At least one access point is positioned within the terminal for receiving the wireless RF signal from the tag transmitter. A processor is operatively connected to the at least one access point for receiving GPS location data and determining a location of the asset to be tracked.

A wireless local area network includes a plurality of access point stations that receive and transmit communications signals within the wireless local area network. A first set of access point stations are WiFi compliant and measure signal strength and determine the received signal strength indication (RSSI). A second set of access point stations are operable in accordance with the time of arrival (TOA) real time location standard (RTLS). A dual mode mobile station is operative for multimode communication with both the WiFi and RTLS compliant access point stations. A location processor is operatively connected with each of the access point stations and processes the RSSI and creates a RSSI locate map and processes communication signals from the second set of access point stations and determines which signals are first-to-arrive signals to locate the mobile station and update the RSSI locate map and locate any non-dual mode WiFi devices.

A tag transmitter is adapted to be mounted on a vehicle for transmitting a wireless RF signal that includes vehicle data relating to the vehicle. A lane sensor is associated with a vehicle lane through which vehicles pass for at least one of entering and exiting the vehicle lot and is configured to receive wireless RF signals from the tag transmitter when the vehicle is in the vehicle lane, while substantially rejecting wireless RF signals from other tag transmitters mounted on other vehicles within the vehicle lot or in an adjacent vehicle lane. A processor is operatively connected to the lane sensor and receives and processes the vehicle data to validate and control the vehicle's entry or exit to or from the vehicle lot.

A receiver such as incorporated within a tag transceiver used in the real-time location system receives the FSK modulated communication signal. The receiver includes a circuit for calculating the magnitude of low and high tones of the FSK modulated communication signal and a threshold for amplitude shift keyed (ASK) channel data and FSK channel data to derive the digital data even in the presence of on-tone jammers in the communications channel.

A wireless local area network (WLAN) includes a server and receiver, which includes a radio frequency (RF) front-end circuit that receives wireless signals from the mobile nodes within the WLAN and detects baseband signals. A signal waveform detector edge detects a signal waveform and generates a trigger signal indicative of the modulation type, data format and time-of-arrival (TOA) information of a desired signal to be captured. A baseband processor receives the trigger signal from the signal waveform detector and captures the desired signal. A system controller is connected to the baseband processor and configures the baseband processor for processing the desired signal and obtaining message data and signal metrics that are transferred to the system controller to be communicated outbound from the receiver as a client to the server.

The system includes an antenna mast supportable by, and extending upward from, an object configured to move or facilitate movement of the asset. The antenna mast is capable of supporting a plurality of wireless locating units of a plurality of geo-spatial positioning systems, which are configured to locate a respective one or more locating units, and thereby the asset, within the geographic area. The system also includes a controller positionable on the object and configured to control operation of the wireless locating units. The controller is further configured to direct transmission of data to a host via one of the locating units or another wireless transmitter, and in a manner that accounts for a wireless link between the respective locating unit or other wireless transmitter and the host.
