Abstract:
A system for transmitting data packets over a network. The system includes a plurality of first nodes, wherein each first node has a first transceiver configured to transmit a data packet at at least one of a plurality of first wavelengths and receive a data packet at an assigned first wavelength, wherein each first node is configured to pass incoming data packets not transmitted at the assigned first wavelength, a plurality of second nodes, wherein each second node has a second transceiver configured to transmit a data packet at least one of a plurality of second wavelengths and receive a data packet at an assigned second wavelength, wherein each second node is configured to pass incoming data packets not transmitted at the assigned second wavelength, and at least one optical fiber operably connecting the transceivers.
Abstract:
Systems for switching optical signals are disclosed. Such a system may include a splitter and a plurality of polarizing filters. The splitter may be configured to receive emitted light and duplicate the emitted light into a plurality of light copies. Each polarizing filter may have a polarization and may be operably connected to the splitter. In addition, each polarizing filter may be configured to receive at least one of the plurality of light copies, filter the at least one of the plurality of received light copies such that light having a similar polarization as that of the polarizing filter passes through the polarizing filter, and output one of a plurality of outputs.
Abstract:
A videophone. The videophone can include an imaging mechanism for taking a video picture of a scene. The videophone can include a mechanism for producing a first video stream of the scene and a second video stream of the scene from the video picture and sending the first video stream and the second video stream onto a network at the same time, the producing mechanism in communication with the imaging mechanism. The videophone can include a mechanism for receiving a plurality of video streams of different scenes from a network. The videophone can include a mechanism for displaying the different scenes of the plurality of video streams alongside each other. A method for a video call.
Abstract:
An improved container for storing, dispensing and handling viscous and semi-viscous fluids such as paint and the like, having novel spout and other design features that enable substantially dripless dispensing and improved handling and storage.
Abstract:
A braking system for, primarily, separately excited D.C. traction motors, in which rheostatic braking is effected by field reversal to generate armature current freewheeling through the low impedance supply and through a brake resistor in series with the armature. A contactor shorts out the brake resistor for normal motoring. Field excitation in conjunction with armature current or armature voltage polarity reversal is detected to indicate the motor generating function, lock open the motoring contactor and prevent short circuiting of the motor/generator. Plug braking by energisation of the armature supply is thus always permissible either by brake handle and power handle or reverse handle and power handle. The armature current then contains a rheostatic braking component and a tractor braking component. What would normally be mis-use of the reversing control to achieve rapid deceleration thus becomes acceptable.
