    摘要: The invention concerns a method of amplifying a radio frequency signal, a switched mode power amplifying device and a radio transmission device comprising such a power amplifying device. The switched power amplifying device (10) comprises an envelope signal input (El), an arithmetic combining unit (SUB) between the envelope signal input and a modulating unit (PWM), configured to modulate a modified envelope signal (E′) output by the arithmetic combining unit with a carrier (C) for obtaining a modulated signal, an amplifying unit (PA) connected to the modulating unit providing an output signal (O) and a feedback path connected between the amplifying unit (PA) and the arithmetic combining unit (SUB). The feedback path comprises a low pass filter (LPF) for filtering the output signal (O) and a signal processing unit (DSP) processing the filtered signal (Vf) in order to obtain an estimated radio frequency amplitude (AE) for provision to the arithmetic combining unit.

    摘要: A power amplifier circuit utilizes a cross-coupled tapped cascade topology together with a technique of applying an RF injection current into a wideband node to provide a single-stage power amplifier with improved PAE, output power, and gain over a wide RF band. The amplifier circuit comprises a cross-coupled cascade transistor unit comprising a pair of cross-coupled cascode transistors, a cross-coupled switching transistor unit comprising a pair of cross-coupled switching transistors, and an RF current generator. RF current generator generates a differential RF injection current, while switching transistor unit amplifies the injection current to generate an amplified injection current at the wideband node of the amplifier circuit and the cascode transistor unit further amplifies the injection current to generate the desired amplified signal at the output of the amplifier circuit. The output signal amplitude generally depends on the differential injection current and the supply voltage VDD applied to the power amplifier circuit.

    摘要: Disclosed herein are methods and apparatus for processing an input information signal having varying amplitude and phase to obtain an amplified output signal having the same amplitude and phase variation. In an exemplary method, an input information signal is decomposed into two pairs of constant-envelope component signals such that the vector sum of the first pair is orthogonal to the vector sum of the second pair, for desired signal amplitudes below a level corresponding to a pre-determined threshold. For desired signal amplitudes above this level, the input information signal is instead decomposed into two pairs of constant-envelope component signals such that the vector sum of the first pair is separated by less than ninety degrees from the vector sum of the second pair. The constant-envelope component signals may be amplified by highly-efficient non-linear amplifier elements and combined to obtain the amplified output signal.
