In an image reading device of a multifunction device, a sheet transport device is provided with a resist roller and a resist roller in a sheet transport path extending from a document tray on which a document as a sheet is placed to an image reading region where reading of a document is performed. The resist roller and a roller correct skewing of the sheet and delivers the sheet to a transport path extending to the resist roller placed in front of the image reading region. After having been corrected once in the resist roller, the document is transported to the resist roller, so that it is possible to reliably correct skewing of the sheet with the resist roller and the roller.

There is a tray driving section for driving the tray main body to be displaced in the directions close to and away from the pickup section. A control section is provided for controlling the tray driving section so as to, in a feeding state, drive the tray main body to be displaced so that a document closest to the pickup section held on the tray is placed in the take-out position, and in a waiting state, drive the tray main body to be displaced in a waiting position closer to the pickup section than a position where the maximum holding amount of documents are held on the tray.

A carriage driving mechanism moves a paper cassette forward and backward along a feeding direction. A cassette rotating mechanism rotates the paper cassette. A single carriage driving mechanism and a single cassette rotating mechanism are provided for each paper cassette and installed on a level between a cassette circular plate and a large turntable. The carriage driving mechanism includes a driving system constituted by a pulse motor, a series of gears, a pulley, a carriage, a wire wound around the pulley, and guide bars. The cassette rotating mechanism includes a pulse motor and a series of gears. The driving system of the carriage driving mechanism and the cassette rotating mechanism are mounted on the bottom surface of the carriage so as to be level, and move along with the carriage. This configuration enables a reduction in the height and size of a rotatable cassette-type feeding apparatus and an increase in copying functions.

Aluminum or an aluminum alloy on the surface of which an anodic oxide film comprising a porous layer and a barrier layer having micropores in the porous layer has been formed by a primary anodic oxidation treatment is subjected to a secondary anodic oxidation treatment and an immersion treatment so as to enlarge the pore diameter of the micropores, to make the cross-sectional profile of the micropores circular, and to make the thickness of the barrier layer and thus, the length of the micropores uniform, and subjecting the so treated aluminum or aluminum alloy to an electrolytic deposition treatment in an electrolytic bath containing a magnetic substance so as to uniformly allow a large amount of the magnetic substance to be deposited in the enlarged, uniform micropores, thereby obtaining a magnetic recording material having improved magnetic intensity and magnetic characteristics.
