Abstract:
An endoscopic bipolar forceps includes a housing and a shaft affixed to the housing. The shaft includes a longitudinal axis defined therethrough and a pair of jaw members attached to a distal end thereof. The forceps also includes a drive assembly for moving one of the jaw members relative to the other jaw member. A movable handle is included which moves the jaw members from the open and closed positions. The forceps is adapted to connect to a source of electrosurgical energy such that the jaw members are capable of conducting bipolar energy through tissue held therebetween to effect a tissue seal. A trigger assembly is operatively disposed relative to the movable handle for selectively advancing a knife assembly for cutting tissue along the tissue seal. The knife assembly includes a knife collar which cooperates with a knife shaft to advance a knife through tissue upon activation of the trigger assembly.
Abstract:
An electrode assembly for use in combination with an electrosurgical instrument which includes opposing end effectors and a handle for effecting movement of the end effectors relative to one another. The assembly includes a housing having one portion which is removably engageable with the electrosurgical instrument and a pair of electrodes each having an electrically conductive sealing surface and an insulating substrate. The electrodes are removably engageable with the end effectors of the electrosurgical instrument such that the electrodes reside in opposing relation relative to one another. The insulating substrate is made from a plastic material having a high Comparative Tracking Index to reduce the incidence of flashover.
Abstract:
An ultrasonic surgical system is provided. The ultrasonic surgical system includes an ultrasonic instrument that is configured to ultrasonically treat tissue. An ultrasonic generator configured to provide ultrasonic energy to the ultrasonic instrument provides an indication to a user that a specific outcome has been achieved. The indication is output via a device selected from an audio activation end-tone device, a visual activation end-tone device or a tactile activation end-tone device. The ultrasonic generator includes an end-tone outcome indicator module that includes memory having one or more data look up tables that is accessible by a microprocessor associated with the ultrasonic generator.
Abstract:
An endoscopic bipolar forceps includes an elongated shaft having opposing jaw members at a distal end thereof. The jaw members are movable relative to one another from a first position wherein the jaw members are disposed in spaced relation relative to one another to a second position wherein the jaw members cooperate to grasp tissue therebetween. The jaws members are connected to a source of electrical energy such that the jaw members are capable of conducting energy through tissue held therebetween to effect a tissue seal. At least one non-conductive and spaced-apart stop member is disposed on an inner-facing surface of the jaw members to regulate the gap distance between the jaw members when tissue is held therebetween. The forceps also includes a longitudinally reciprocating knife which severs the tissue after sealing at a location which is proximate the sealing site.
Abstract:
A battery alarm for use with a battery assembly is provided, the battery alarm including a first activation component, a signaling component, and an output component. The first activation component is configured to activate the alarm upon disengagement of the battery assembly from a battery-operated device and is further configured to deactivate the alarm upon engagement of the battery pack with the battery-operated device. The signaling component is coupled to the first activation component and is configured to transmit a signal when the alarm is activated. The output component is adapted to receive the signal from the signaling component and is configured to produce a visual, audible, and/or tactile output upon receipt of the signal from the signaling component.
Abstract:
An open electrosurgical forceps for sealing tissue includes a pair of first and second shaft members each having a jaw member disposed at a distal end thereof. The jaw members are movable from a first position in spaced relation relative to one another to a subsequent position wherein the jaw members cooperate to grasp tissue therebetween. Each of the jaw members includes an electrically conductive sealing plate for communicating electrosurgical energy through tissue held therebetween. At least one of the jaw members includes a cutting slot defined along a length thereof which is dimensioned to reciprocate a cutting instrument therealong for cutting tissue disposed between jaw members. An actuator advances the cutting instrument from a first position wherein the cutting instrument is disposed proximal to tissue held between the jaw members to at least one subsequent position wherein the cutting instrument is disposed distal to tissue held between the jaw members.

Abstract:
A surgical instrument is provided. The surgical instrument including an end effector assembly operatively connected to a distal end of the shaft and having a pair of first and second jaw members, one or both of the first and second jaw members moveable from an open position to a clamping position, wherein each of the first and second jaw members includes a cutting channel defined therein that extends therethrough. A cutting element is movable within the cutting channel and includes a stationary blade and a pivoting blade that pivots with respect to the stationary blade when first and second jaw members are in the clamped position and the cutting element is advanced through the cutting channel. The jaw members include an actuator operably connected to the housing and configured to impart reciprocating movement of the cutting element.
