摘要: A method for performing a medical procedure in an intestine of a patient is provided. The method comprises providing a system comprising: a catheter for insertion into the intestine, the catheter comprising: an elongate shaft comprising a distal portion; and a functional assembly positioned on the shaft distal portion and comprising at least one treatment element. The catheter is introduced into the patient, and target tissue is treated with the at least one treatment element. The target tissue comprises mucosal tissue of the small intestine, and the medical procedure can be configured to treat polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

摘要: A kit for delivering microwave ablative energy to tissue and methods for using the kit are included. The kit includes an access catheter, an implant deployment tool, and a microwave delivery device. The implant deployment tool is configured to be inserted into the access catheter and has an implant disposed therein in a contracted state and being slidable out of a distal opening and expandable into an expanded state. The microwave delivery device is configured to deliver the microwave ablative energy to the tissue and to be advanced through the access catheter and slidably disposable within the implant when the implant is in the expanded state.

摘要: An electrosurgical instrument having a microwave ablation antenna dimensioned to be suitable for insertion into a pancreas via a surgical scoping device, to provide a rapid and accurate alternative to known RF ablation techniques. The electrosurgical instrument comprises: a proximal coaxial transmission line for conveying microwave electromagnetic (EM) energy; a distal radiating portion; and an intermediate impedance transformer arranged to match an impedance of the coaxial transmission line to an impedance of the distal radiating portion, wherein the distal radiating portion comprises a microwave antenna for emitting the microwave EM energy conveyed by the coaxial transmission line, wherein the distal radiating portion has a maximum outer diameter less than an outer diameter of the coaxial transmission line. With these features, the instrument is able to deliver microwave energy via a small diameter structure.

摘要: An exemplary ablation system is provided. The system is designed for safe and efficacious energy delivery into tissue by, for example, emitting energy in a controlled, repeatable manner that allows for feedback and energy emission titration based on sensed parameters (e.g., tissue temperature) measured during ablation. The system may include a switching antenna for both heating of target tissue and radiometry to monitor the temperature of the heated tissue. For example, the switching antenna may include a monopole formed by proximal and distal radiating elements, such that the proximal radiating element includes a short to defeat a choke action of the proximal radiating element. The system further includes a processor for calculating the temperature of the target tissue and estimating volume of the ablation lesion based on the target tissue temperature.

The articulation sub-assembly is configured to articulate an end effector of the surgical instrument and the jaw drive sub-assembly is configured to move jaw members of the end effector between an open and closed position. The articulation sub-assembly includes two input shafts, a proximal plate, a middle plate, two center gears, and four lead screws with four nuts. The jaw drive sub-assembly includes a drive rod coupled to at least one of the jaws and a spring force assembly to maintain a force between the jaws.

摘要: An electrosurgical instrument for use in minimally invasive surgical techniques that provides a small scale localized microwave field capable of precisely ablating tissue, e.g. in the lungs, through suitable selection of geometry and material for a radiating distal tip thereof. The instrument may be used with a bronchoscope having a power delivery structure formed within the instrument cord thereof. A vision system may be incorporated into the energy delivery structure. The instrument comprise a coaxial cable for conveying microwave energy to a radiating tip portion that comprises a dielectric tip and a distal conductive portion that extends longitudinally therein. The dielectric tip has a dielectric constant greater than a dielectric material within the coaxial cable. The distal end of the device is designed to facilitate efficient microwave energy delivery into lung tumour tissue to achieve a localized volume of ablation.

摘要: A system for controlling operation of a radiofrequency treatment device to apply radiofrequency energy to tissue to heat tissue to create lesions without ablating the tissue. The system includes a first treatment device having at least one electrode for applying radiofrequency energy to tissue, a controller including a connector to which a first treatment device is coupled for use, and a generator for applying radiofrequency energy to the electrodes. The controller controls application of energy so that the tissue is thermally treated to create lesions but preventing thermal treatment beyond a threshold which would ablate the tissue.
