    Abstract: There are provided sample analysis cartridges, and methods and systems using such sample analysis cartridges, wherein the sample analysis cartridges comprise a reaction chamber configured to receive a sample; a film defining at least a portion of a face of the reaction chamber; an inlet port fluidly connected to an inlet of the reaction chamber and an outlet port fluidly connected to an outlet of the reaction chamber; and an air reservoir fluidly connected to the reaction chamber; the inlet port, outlet port and air reservoir arranged such that, as the reaction chamber is filled with fluid through the inlet port, gas within the reaction chamber may escape the cartridge through the outlet port whilst gas within the air reservoir is retained; the inlet port, outlet port and air reservoir being further arranged such that such that, if the inlet and outlet ports are sealed, gas within the air reservoir applies pressure on the contents of the reaction chamber.

    Abstract: A droplet dispenser comprises a chamber (3) with a fluid inlet valve (2) and a fluid outlet valve (4). The chamber (3) is arranged such that the volume of the chamber may be varied in use to cause fluid to be alternately drawn in to the chamber (3) through the inlet valve (2) then subsequently expelled from the chamber through the outlet valve (4) to dispense a droplet. The droplet dispenser is capable of dispensing from an open reservoir and one may change the dispensed drop volume simply and easily. The droplet dispenser can also handle liquids which are normally seen as difficult to dispense, such as cyanoacrylate adhesives.

    Abstract: A counting mechanism (100) for a dispenser comprising: a first and a second housing part (110, 120) that are rotatable relative to each other; and a counting ring (130) disposed between the housing parts. The first housing part has a protrusion (111) which abuts the counting ring, holding a portion of the counting ring in contact with the second housing part. The relative rotation of the housing parts causes the protrusion to slide against the surface of the counting ring to drive a rolling movement of the counting ring around the circumference of the second housing part, such that a predefined rotation of the housing parts produces an incremental rotational displacement between the counting ring and second housing part to record a count. The counting mechanism provides a large gear reduction ratio in a compact form which is straightforward to manufacture and provides an accurate and reliable record of counts.
