摘要: A retractable catheter introducer structure includes a stepped housing and a retractable needle holder. The head of the needle holder is held in a first embodiment by means of a plunger tube having a landed front opening and in a second embodiment wherein the head of the needle holder is possessed of a surrounding ring member which can be pressed upon and released by the open mouth of an elongated tube. A catheter needle extends from the front of the housing to which a catheter assembly is removably attached. Both embodiments provide one handed operation. Retraction is triggered by pulling on the housing with the plunger tube backed against the palm of the hand to release the needle holder. Until the introducer structure is separated, the catheter assembly remains attached to the housing after retraction is triggered giving the operator greater control by reducing uncontrolled fluid egress.

摘要: A tamperproof retractable non-reusable syringe has a one piece hollow outer body with a barrel for a slidable plunger, a transition zone and a smaller diameter nose portion. An elongated needle holder and spring combination is installable from the rear of the outer body, guided into the nose portion and held by cooperating inwardly and outwardly facing surfaces oriented in the direction of retraction at the most constricted part of the transition zone where the nose begins. The plunger has an opening with a dislodgable stopper for receiving parts of the retraction mechanism. The stopper and the head of the needle holder are of significantly reduced diameter from the injection fluid chamber to resist blowing out prematurely. In one embodiment the head of the needle holder is surrounded by a separable retainer member which is slidingly removed by contact with the tip of the plunger after the stopper is mostly or fully removed to avoid cumulation of force required for retraction after the injection. In a second embodiment the head of the needle holder is clamped and held by constricting forces imposed by stress on the outer body induced by interference fit. Release occurs by slight expansion on the barrel by contact of the plunger tip with a small internal ramp in the outer barrel. Both embodiments have a plunger cap configured to enter an opening in the outer body to provide an additional tamperproof feature.

摘要: A permanently automatically retractable fluid collecting device has an elongated outer protective tube member having a front end with a port and a coaxial telescoping plunger having a forward end for frictionally engaging a needle holder for a canula needle. The plunger is slidingly mounted in the elongated tube member for selective movement in an axial direction toward and away from the front. The front end of the plunger has an opening having inwardly facing surfaces for frictionally engaging outwardly facing surfaces of the periphery of a needle holder along a slidable axially oriented interface. When the plunger is moved forward to extend the needle from the port, a catch holds it in a first position. Biasing force is applied to the needle holder being frictionally held in the front of the plunger. A sample tube is installable in the opening at the rear of the plunger. After taking a sample and removing the collection tube, a plunger cap is repositioned to allow the plunger to be moved from the first position toward a second position causing sliding separation of the plunger from the needle holder along the slidable interface. The biasing force overcomes remaining frictional holding force at the sliding interface to cause immediate and permanent retraction of the needle holder into a cavity comprising a retraction space within the plunger.

摘要: A syringe for medical use, the syringe having a selectively retractable needle and a multifunctional needle holder and retainer ring assembly including a needle holder with a head section having an inwardly tapering frustoconical section of the fluid pathway and a rearwardly facing annular surface surrounding the rear opening, and an elastomeric retainer ring with a substantially unexpanded collar extending rearwardly beyond the rearwardly facing annular surface to increase needle pushout force, reduce activation force and improve fluid flow through the syringe. Annular projections inside the retainer ring and on the outer surface of the head section of the needle holder are also disclosed.

摘要: A medical device useful for collecting samples of a bodily fluid, typically a vascular fluid such as blood. The subject device can also be used for infusing liquids into a patient. The fluid flow path desirably includes a forwardly projecting, rearwardly biased needle, a needle holder and a length of plastic tubing, the forwardly extending end of which is configured to function as a fluid seal to reduce the likelihood of fluid leakage during or after use. Following use, the needle is retractable from the patient by sliding a needle retraction cavity transversely into longitudinal alignment with the needle, thereby disrupting the fluid flow path and propelling the needle rearwardly so that it no longer projects from the device.
