    Abstract: A button assembly includes a touchpad having an upper surface extending in a generally flat plane and movable between a first position and a second position displaced from the first position in response to the application of a pressing force perpendicular to the upper surface. Additional, smaller pushbuttons may be located adjacent the touchpad. A sub-bezel includes a housing defining a cavity for holding a linear bearing for guiding the touchpad in a linear path perpendicular to the upper surface. The linear bearing includes a plurality of first ball bearings and second ball bearings separated by a first distance perpendicular to the upper surface. The ball bearings may be sandwiched between a bearing outer member and a bearing inner member which includes an inner-top member secured to an inner-bottom member with a screw. A bearing carrier holds the ball bearings within troughs in the bearing outer member.

    Abstract: A display cluster having an active state and an inactive state includes a front cover with an outer surface facing outwardly toward a viewer and an inner surface opposite the outer surface. An active display region with a display screen to generate an image and a first backlight may be surrounded by a peripheral region including a second backlight. One or more of the backlights may illuminate with the display cluster in the active state. A partial mirror may be disposed on the inner surface of the front cover to allow the display light from the active display region to pass outwardly therethrough and to block incident light from passing therethrough. The partial mirror may prevent reflections from one or more structures located therebeyond, away from the viewer, and may thereby present a uniform appearance between the active display region and the peripheral region with the display cluster in the inactive state.

    Abstract: An electronic-mirror (e-mirror) system is disclosed herein. The system includes a backlit display configured to present content; a first reflective polarizer layer overlapping the backlit display; an air gap layer introduced between the backlit display and the first reflective polarizer; a rotator cell layer directly overlapping the first reflective polarizer; a second reflective polarizer directly overlapping the rotator cell; a switch-able polarizer directly overlapping the second reflective polarizer; and a lens directly overlapping the switch-able polarizer. Also included herein is an index matched interface and front anti-reflective film, thereby allowing the e-mirror to be both in the states of a reflective and electronic display mode without requiring a toggling towards a low luminance surface.

    Abstract: An enclosure for holding a printed circuit board includes a housing portion of metal containing at least about 90% magnesium and formed by a semi-solid metal casting process of thixomolding, and including first and second housing portions each including a closed end and an open end with a plurality of teeth where the first and second portions join together in a clamshell arrangement to define an enclosed space for holding the printed circuit board. The teeth of the first housing portion may be aligned to overlap and to engage corresponding ones of the teeth of the second housing portion in physical and electrical contact for blocking electromagnetic interference (EMI) with the housing portions closed together. A method of forming a housing portion of an enclosure for holding a printed circuit board is also provided, and which includes steps of thixomolding magnesium to form the housing portion with integrally-formed teeth.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a heads up display system for a vehicle interior that includes a light modifying panel configured to cyclically transition between a substantially light transmissive state that facilitates light passage through the light modifying panel and a partially reflective state that facilitates light reflection toward a occupant of a vehicle. The heads up display system also includes a pulsating light source configured to cyclically project an image onto the light modifying panel, and a controller configured to control the pulsating light source and the light modifying panel so that the image is projected onto the light modifying panel while the light modifying panel is in the partially reflective state.
