Abstract: An acoustic imaging system coupled to an acoustic medium to define an imaging surface. The acoustic imaging system includes an array of piezoelectric acoustic transducers formed at least in part from a thin-film piezoelectric material, such as PVDF. The array is coupled to the acoustic medium opposite the imaging surface and formed using a thin-film manufacturing process over an application-specific integrated circuit that, in turn, is configured to leverage the array of piezoelectric actuators to generate an image of an object at least partially wetting to the imaging surface.

Abstract: An apparatus for fingerprint sensing includes a touch-display layer covered by a transparent layer. The touch-display layer can emit light to illuminate a finger surface touching the transparent layer. The touch-display layer is transparent to reflected light from the surface to underlying layers. The underlying layers include a collimator layer and a pixelated image sensor. The collimator layer can collimate the reflected light, and the pixelated image sensor can sense the collimated reflected light. The collimator can collimate the reflected light to enable a one-to-one imaging ratio between an area of the finger surface touching the transparent layer and an area of a corresponding image formed on the pixelated image sensor.

Abstract: An apparatus for fingerprint sensing includes a light-emitting layer, an optical layer, a filter layer and a pixelated image sensor. The light-emitting layer is covered by a transparent layer, and can illuminate a surface touching the transparent layer and allows transmission of reflected light from the surface to the optical layer. The optical layer includes a plurality of optical elements. The filter layer includes a number of apertures and spatially processes the reflected light. The pixelated image sensor can sense the spatially processed light. At least one of the optical layer or the filter layer enables an angle-focused FOV filtering of the reflected light.

Abstract: A method of authenticating a user of a wearable electronic device includes emitting light into a dorsal side of a forearm near a wrist of the user; receiving, using a light field camera, remissions of the light from the dorsal side of the forearm near the wrist of the user; generating a light field image from the remissions of the light; performing a synthetic focusing operation on the light field image to construct at least one image of at least one layer of the forearm near the wrist; extracting a set of features from the at least one image; determining whether the set of features matches a reference set of features; and authenticating the user based on the matching. In some embodiments, the method may further include compensating for a tilt of the light field camera prior to or while performing the synthetic focusing operation.

Abstract: A biometric sensing device is operatively connected to a processing channel. The processing channel can include one or more variable gain amplifiers and/or one or more variable offset circuits. The signal levels associated with a section of a biometric image can be reconstructed using a digitized section of the biometric image and a particular gain and/or a particular offset value used in the processing channel to process the digitized section of the biometric image. The reconstructed sections of the biometric image can be combined to form a reconstructed biometric image. Additional processing operations can be performed on the reconstructed biometric image.
