Abstract: Devices for guiding an instrument into a body of a patient, at a targeted point of entry and along an insertion path at a targeted insertion angle, are described herein, such as a guide for an access needle in a PCNL procedure for accessing the kidney to remove kidney stones. The devices include base component aligned with a point of entry, and a guide assembly which cooperates with the base component to allow an instrument to be aligned and fixed at various circumferential and vertical angles. The devices and methods allow a medical professional to accurately and stably guide an instrument at a targeted point and angle and to a desired depth, while minimizing the exposure to radiation used to image the insertion path.

Abstract: A method of using a suction device to remove an object from a subject's body includes extending a suction device into the body through a lumen of a medical device and expanding the suction head from a contracted configuration to an expanded configuration within the body. The suction head may be provided at a distal end of an elongate conduit. The method may also include applying suction to move the object into the expanded suction head, and removing the suction device with the object from the body.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a medical device includes a tissue anchor has a first portion and a second portion. The tissue anchor is configured to be placed within bodily tissue of a patient. The first portion of the tissue anchor includes an extension member configured to engage the bodily tissue to help retain the tissue anchor within the bodily tissue. The first portion has an inner surface and defines a cavity. The second portion of the tissue anchor has a helical ridge. The helical ridge is configured to engage the inner surface of the first portion of the tissue anchor to movably couple the second portion of the tissue anchor to the first portion of the tissue anchor.

Abstract: A stent delivery device having a locking mechanism. The device includes a handle assembly, an elongate inner member, and an elongate outer tubular member surrounding the elongate inner member. The handle assembly includes a handle attached to one of the inner member and the outer tubular member, and an actuator attached to the other of the inner member and the outer tubular member. Actuation of the actuator relative to the handle between a first position and a second position causes axial movement of the outer tubular member relative to the inner member. The locking mechanism has a locked position in which the actuator is prevented from moving from the first position to the second position and an unlocked position in which the actuator is permitted to move from the first position to the second position.
