摘要: An adaptive thresholding technique eliminates suboptimum threshold values by adjusting for varying channel conditions to eliminate interference where no channel energy is present, without discarding viable taps having useful channel energy. The adaptive thresholding technique adaptively optimizes receive threshold values for both wide and local area channels based only on measured C/I ratios 300. Thresholds are calculated based on instantaneous C/I estimates and/or weighted average C/I estimates calculated from WID/LID energies obtained from the current superframe WIC/LIC symbols respectively. In alternate embodiments, thresholds are calculated based on instantaneous C/I estimates and/or weighted average C/I estimates calculated from WTPC and LTPC symbols for the wide and local area channels, respectively The present adaptive thresholding technique dynamically reduces the threshold as the C/I estimate increases to mitigate performance degradation due to removal of weak signal taps. There is a separate threshold for each of the 12 coding and modulation modes supported by an exemplary receiver.

摘要: A system and method for performing base station initiated call setup is provided. A base station initiated call setup may be utilized to establish a test call, to deliver a packet data services call to a subscriber unit, or to reactivate a dormant packet call. The base station transmits a BS Service Request message to the mobile switching center, requesting initiation of the call. The mobile switching center will authorize the call if the call to be set up is directed to a subscriber unit located within the service area of the base station and if the service option to be used is authorized for the particular subscriber unit. The mobile switching center will allow or disallow the call depending on the state of the subscriber unit. The mobile switching center transmits a BS Service Response message to the base station, conveying the result of processing the BS Service Request message. If the base station initiated call setup is authorized and allowed, the call will generally proceed in the same manner as a subscriber terminated call.

摘要: A method and apparatus for eliminating transmit echo spurs is provided. The method includes the steps of: estimating a distortion effect applied to a transmit signal by a duplexer stop band. Next, the contribution of a primary component of the spur is estimated. An image component of the spur is estimated after the primary contribution has been estimated. The transmit echo is then subtracted from the composite desired signal by digitally subtracting the distortion effect, the primary component of the spur, and the image component of the spur, producing the desired composite transmit signal without the transmit echo.

摘要: A method and system for operation of a personal base station where the forward link of a personal base station is on the same frequency assignment as a first forward link data signal transmitted by a macro base station belonging to a cellular communication system. A first subscriber station communicates with the macro base station. The personal base station generates a second forward link data signal and communicates with a second subscriber station. The personal base station receives the first forward link data signal and combines it with its own second forward link data signal to form a combined forward link data signal. The personal base station then transmits the combined forward link data signal. The first subscriber station is able to receive and diversity combine the combined forward link data signal, improving the signal to noise ratio that would otherwise occur in the vicinity of the personal base station.

摘要: A system and method for providing mobile switching center (MSC) initiated service negotiation in a wireless communication system. If a new call arrives for a subscriber unit while the subscriber unit is already on the traffic channel, a change in the service configuration may allow the subscriber unit to receive the new call while preserving the old call. MSC initiated service negotiation may be used to establish the change in service configuration. The MSC transmits a Change Service Command message to the base station in whose coverage area the subscriber unit is located. The Change Service Command proposes a new service configuration to accommodate both the old and the new call. The base station, subscriber unit, and MSC may interchange further messages to modify the proposed service configuration if necessary. Messages are exchanged until the base station, subscriber unit, and MSC reach an agreement regarding the new service configuration. The present invention also provides support for soft handoff. The new service configuration is presented to all target base stations involved in the soft handoff, so that the subscriber unit may make use of the new service configuration while in soft handoff.

摘要: The invention is a method and apparatus for providing an Alert With Information Message signal between a mobile switching center and a base station in a cellular communication system. The invention recognizes that current provisions of the IS-634 standard lack support for certain required functionality on the interface between a mobile switching center and a base station, or the A-Interface. An Alert With Information Message signal is introduced on the A-Interface to support the required functionality. Introduction of the Alert With Information Message provides support for reliable call processing on the A-Interface for the call waiting procedure and the hard handoff procedure.
