    Abstract: Paint compositions contain compounds, or salts of compounds, of formulae wherein R1 is C1- 12 alkyl, C4- 7 cycloalkyl, or aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl groups (up to C18), one of R2 and R3 is C4- 18 tertiary alkyl and the other is the same or an alkyl, aryl, alkaryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl group (up to C18). In Example 4, a baking enamel contains a styrene/acrylic acid copolymer (made using (Me3C)2O2 and PhCH2NMe3OH) esterified with the glycidyl ester of a carboxylic acid containing a C8- 10 tertiary alkyl group; petroleum naphtha, butanol and xylene; TiO2; melamine -CH2O resin in BuOH and the CF3CO2H salt of a mixture of compounds of the above formulae in which R1 is lauryl and R2, R3 are each C8- 10 tertiary alkyl.ALSO:In Examples 1 and 2, compounds of formulae are prepared, where R1 is lauryl or cyclohexyl, and R2 and R3 are each C8- 10 tertiary alkyl, by reacting the corresponding glycidyl ester with laurylamine or cyclohexylamine. In Example 3, the CF3CO2H salt of the above compound (R1 = lauryl) is also made.
