摘要: A method and system is disclosed for enhanced Simultaneous Hybrid Dual Receive operation. A hybrid access terminal engaged in an IS-856 data communication in a hybrid IS-2000/IS-856 wireless communication system will use its high-gain antenna to conduct IS-2000 tuneaway scans when the access terminal determines that the IS-2000 signal received from its serving base station is below a level that can be reliably detected by its low-gain antenna. At the same time, the access terminal will continue to use its low-gain antenna to engage in the ongoing IS-856 communication, thereby avoiding interruption of the IS-856 communication by IS-2000 tuneaway scans, even when RF conditions are sub-optimal. The access terminal may apply a DRC offset to its DRC request when using just its low-gain antenna for IS-856 communications.

摘要: A method and system for monitoring data rate requests (DRRs) transmitted from an access terminal (AT) to an access network (AN). Each DRR includes a parameter indicating whether it is a null or non-null DRR. Upon the AT transitioning to a null-DRR state, the AT and AN determine an average parameter of a given number of DRRs and compare the average to a threshold. The AT selects a time duration based on the average and starts a timer. When the timer counts to the selected duration, the AT transitions from a mode in which the AT transmits data channel traffic and other traffic to a mode in which the AT prevents transmission of data channel traffic but allows transmission of other traffic. The AN compares the average to another threshold and determines whether it should transmit forward-link traffic channel data to the AT at a null or non-null data rate.

摘要: Systems and methods for dynamically adjusting a metric that influences power management of an access terminal are provided. Initially, an access node is configured to distribute reverse-activity bits (RAB's) to the access terminal, which conveys data, at a particular rate, to the access node. Adjusting the dynamic metric involves establishing a number of slots allocated for a filtered reverse-activity bit (FRAB) window and a hybrid reverse-activity bit (HRAB) window, wherein each of the slots are allocated to accept a RAB. The RAB's accepted to the slots of the FRAB window and the HRAB window are recursively averaged to derive a FRAB parameter and an HRAB parameter, respectively. The dynamic metric is adjusted by incorporating either the FRAB parameter or an HRAB parameter therein based on whether ramping conditions are satisfied. The rate of data conveyed from the access terminal is controlled based on the adjusted dynamic metric.

摘要: What is disclosed is a method of operating a wireless communication device. The method includes, while at an initial location, entering a first wireless communication mode that requires tuning to a first frequency spectrum. In response to entering the first wireless communication mode, the method includes setting a timer for monitoring a second wireless communication mode. When the timer expires, the method includes determining if a present location of the wireless communication device is beyond a threshold distance from the initial location. If the present location is beyond the threshold distance from the initial location, then the method includes tuning away from the first frequency spectrum to a second frequency spectrum for the second wireless communication mode and monitoring information for the second wireless communication mode, and if the present location is not beyond the threshold distance from the initial location, then resetting the timer for monitoring the second wireless communication mode.

摘要: Methods and systems for dynamically adjusting the page-concatenation level based on RF conditions being experienced by a mobile station are disclosed herein. An exemplary method involves (i) determining that a mobile station should be paged, wherein the mobile station is operating in a coverage area of an access network; and (ii) in response: (a) using at least one indication of RF conditions for the mobile station as a basis for selecting a page-concatenation level for a page to the mobile station; and (b) transmitting the page to the mobile station, wherein the page is transmitted in a page message having the selected page-concatenation level. In an exemplary embodiment, the indication of RF conditions may be a determination that a mobile station is located near the border of a coverage area, which is made based on an elapsed time since the mobile station's last-received registration message.
